DESCRIPTION:Holding Space: Grounded\nCurated by Kimberly Leja Atwood (Dire
ctor of Elephant Room Gallery) \nBeverly Art Center – Simmerling Gallery
  \nSeptember 26th – October 24th \nOpening on Saturday\, September 26th
\n11am to 5pm during the Beverly Art Walk \nHolding Space: Grounded is a g
roup exhibition that reflects on the ways we navigate both internal and ex
ternal pressures. To hold space is a reminder to pause\, adjust\, and conn
ect with others or return to ourselves. \nThrough diverse perspectives\, t
he artists in this exhibition translate a moment of stillness into visual
form. The idea of being grounded evokes different things for different peo
 ple\; a place of refuge\, a fleeting moment\, a remembered presence\, a re
petitive action\, an emotional state. Each artwork created becomes an inte
rpretation of what it means to hold space and be grounded\; inhaling\, exh
aling\, being present. \nThe creative process in itself can be an act of g
rounding – making room for reflection\, restoration\, and connection. In
bringing these works together\, Holding Space: Grounded explores both the
healing process of making and the object that remains.

DESCRIPTION:The Smiley Tillmon Band with Billy Flynn\nSaturday\, October 2
 4th @ 7:30pm  \nNon-members – $35 \nMembers – $32 \n  \nABOUT THE SM
ILEY TILLMON BAND \n\n\n\nOne of the busiest blues outfits in Chicagoland\
, the Smiley Tillmon Band is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. There’s an obvi
ous reason why the veteran guitarist’s booking schedule is so jam-packed
: Smiley knows how to have a good time and makes sure his audience does to
 o. After 55 years on the local blues scene\, Tillmon serves up the blues a
nd soul standards that people never seem to stop craving\, his rich vocals
and fluid guitar backed by a band that keeps his grooves tight and right.
\nBorn Moses Tillmon in rural Jefferson County\, Georgia\, Smiley grew up
on a hearty musical diet of gospel\, country\, and a little blues. His mo
ther moved to Fort Lauderdale when he was ten\; there he was exposed to ca
lypso music\, adding up to a singular list of influences. Tillmon took up
guitar and was good enough by the dawn of the ‘60s to back Miami R&B sin
ger Billy Miranda in the studio. He joined Sammy Ambrose & the Afro-Beats\
, a calypso-oriented band\, touring from Canada to New York. Smiley bid th
e Afro-Beats adieu in 1962 and moved to Chicago. There he established hims
elf on the blues circuit\, playing with Billy “The Kid” Emerson\, Deni
se LaSalle\, and other South Side luminaries until he opted for a day job
 in 1977. \nUpon his 2007 retirement\, Smiley reverted to full-time musical
status. He joined forces with bassist Tom Rezetko\, and they’ve been in
separable onstage ever since. Kate Moss shares guitar duties with Tillmon\
; married to another blues guitar standout\, Nick Moss\, Kate’s sound is
heavily influenced by Freddie King and Magic Sam (she fell in love with t
he blues at age 21 when she met Buddy Guy\, and she’s shared stages with
Buddy\, Jimmy Johnson\, Eddie Shaw\, and Lurrie Bell\, to name just a few
). Drummer George Baumann completes one of the Windy City’s toughest blu
es combos\, one that’ll keep you smiling from ear to ear.   – Bill Da
hl \n\n  \nABOUT BILLY FLYNN \n\nBilly Flynn has a long and storied histo
ry playing Chicago blues. At age 14\, he met Jimmy Dawkins in Green Bay\,
Wisconsin\, while sitting outside a blues club and listening through the b
ack door. Five years later\, Dawkins invited Billy to hit the road in 1975
\, working with The Southside Blues All-Stars and its ensemble cast includ
ing: Eddie Shaw\, Hubert Sumlin\, Jimmy Dawkins\, and Junior Wells. His di
scography includes over 70 recordings on Sony\, Delmark\, Alligator\, Blin
 d Pig\, MC\, Electro-Fi\, Earwig\, Severn\, The Sirens\, Big Eye\, Random
Chance\, Ichiban\, and Easy Baby labels. His 2017 Delmark recording\, Lone
some Highway\, was recently re-released and was #1 on AirPlay charts. His
live performance and recording history includes: Jimmy Dawkins\, Otis Rush
 \, Deitra Farr\, Billy Boy Arnold\, Willie Smith\, Kenny Smith\, Pinetop P
 erkins\, Willie Kent\, Kim Wilson\, Barrelhouse Chuck\, James Wheeler\, Bo
b Stroger\, The Cash Box Kings\, Chicago Blues A Living History Band\, Bob
  Corritore\, Demetria Taylor\, Mud Morganfield\, and more. He’s a 6-time
Grammy nominated musician and winner of 2 Grammys–including one for his
guitar work on Beyonce’s 2009 R&B Song Of The Year\, At Last.. Flynn’
s work was featured as the guitar sounds of Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry t
hroughout the Grammy nominated soundtrack of the movie Cadillac Records. B
illy was a backing guitarist for the Howling For Hubert (Sumlin) Tribute a
t the Apollo Theater\, supporting Eric Clapton\, Keith Richards\, Elvis Co
 stello\, Kim Wilson\, Billy Gibbons\, and Steve Jordan. He’s performed a
t the world’s greatest blues fests\, including the Chicago Blues Fest\,
King Biscuit Fest\, San Francisco Blues Fest\, Lucerne Blues Festival (Swi
tzerland)\, Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland)\, Cognac’s Blues Passio
 n (France)\, Eutin (Germany)\, Notodden (Norway)\, and Bellinzona (Italy).
Billy is an inductee of the Wisconsin Music Association’s Hall of Fame
and a member of the Chicago Blues Hall Of Fame. Billy kicked off the Tribu

DESCRIPTION:Chicago Jazz Philharmonic & Orbert Davis ~ Sketches of Spain:
 Revisited\nSaturday\, November 7th\, 2026 \n7:30pm  \nPremium Adult – $
 50 ($45 Members) \nReserved Adult – $45 ($41 Members) \nChicago Jazz Phi
lharmonic (CJP) presents Sketches of Spain: Revisited\, an orchestral reim
agining of the iconic 1960 original by Miles Davis and Gil Evans. For this
reinterpretation of the 1960 classic recording\, CJP artistic director an
d composer Orbert Davis created two additional compositions\, incorporatin
g traditional African and Middle Eastern instruments and making modificati
ons to the ensemble orchestration. These intimate yet powerful concerts wi
ll transport audiences to a different world. \nOrbert Davis’s involvemen
t with Sketches of Spain began in the 1990’s when\, as a trumpeter in Bi
ll Russo’s Chicago Jazz Ensemble\, he was asked to perform the solo trum
pet part originally played by Miles Davis (no relation). A particular chal
lenge was to disregard the expectations of some purists that the original
performance would be re-created. “However\,” Orbert notes\, “What Mi
les played is not intended to be duplicated. Miles reached past the techni
cal aspects of his instrument and played from the depths of his soul. I to
ok that approach to freely create during the improvised sections.” \nOrb
ert Davis’s version of the classic work developed over many subsequent p
erformances and years of studying the original recording\, as well as Span
ish music and culture. From the first performance with his own Chicago Jaz
z Philharmonic in 2011\, Orbert introduced new elements reflecting Moorish
influences on Spanish culture along with infectious jazz grooves and high
lighted the unique talents of individual musicians in his ensemble. \nPURC
