DESCRIPTION:Members & guests–free \nEvery Saturday afternoon\, join fell
ow film aficionados of the Village for an in-depth organic discussion of f
ilms new and old. Watch the selected film any time–or enjoy the discuss
ion and be persuaded to view it after! \nThis week’s film is: \nNine to
 Five: 1980\, 110min\, on Amazon & others $4\n\nCelebrating Dolly\, let’s
watch her debut film produced in part by Jane Fonda. It tells the story o
 f three secretaries/assistants (Dolly Parton\, Jane Fonda\, Lily Tomlin) w
ho hate their boss Dabney Coleman\, and for good reason. He’s a “sexi
 st\, egotistical\, lying\, hypocritical bigot\,” and he admits it. The t
hree women fantasize what they’d like to do to him\, and then actually
do it. The story is over the top\, almost camp\, but who cares. Parton\, F
onda\, and Tomlin are magic together on screen\, and of the three\, Parton
stands out. Roger Ebert said she was “a natural-born movie star” who
“contains so much energy\, so much life and unstudied natural exuberanc
e that watching her do anything in this movie is a pleasure.” Dolly was
nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance\, and received many more
 nominations for her song.

DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate the unveiling of our brand-new updated\, state-
of-the-art cinema system\, featuring 7.1 Dolby Digital surround sound\, br
inging an even more immersive moviegoing experience to our community. \nWh
at better way to kick it off this new chapter for The John & Nancy Hughes
Theater than John Hughes’ classic film “The Breakfast Club” in new 4
K digital restoration with 50 minutes of deleted and extended scenes! \nJo
hn Hughes’ The Breakfast Club is a defining coming-of-age film that expl
ores the pressures\, insecurities\, and unexpected connections of teenage
life. Set during one Saturday detention at a suburban Chicago high school\
, the film brings together five students who seem to have nothing in commo
 n. \nThere’s the brain\, the athlete\, the basket case\, the princess\,
and the criminal. Each arrives with a different reputation and a different
reason for being there. At first\, their personalities clash. They argue\
, tease one another\, and retreat into the roles their classmates expect t
hem to play. \nBut as the hours pass\, those walls begin to come down. The
students share stories about their families\, friendships\, fears\, and s
truggles. Soon\, they discover that the labels separating them don’t tel
l the whole story. Beneath the stereotypes\, they face many of the same qu
estions about identity\, expectations\, and belonging. \nFeaturing memorab
le performances from Emilio Estevez\, Anthony Michael Hall\, Judd Nelson\,
Molly Ringwald\, and Ally Sheedy\, The Breakfast Club blends humor with h
eartfelt moments and an unforgettable soundtrack. Decades after its releas
e\, the film remains a funny\, thoughtful\, and relatable look at growing
up and discovering who you really are. \nDirector: John Hughes \nStars: Em
ilio Estevez\, Judd Nelson\, Molly Ringwald \nFREE POPCORN!

DESCRIPTION:In addition to being a character study\, a historical reenactm
ent\, and a prism on contemporary political dynamics\, Paweł Pawlikowski
’s Fatherland is a road movie. That’s an especially apt genre for a fi
lmmaker who has migrated across England\, France\, Germany\, and his nativ
e Poland for entire chapters of his award-winning career. This Digging Dee
per session will chart the extraordinary versatility but also some consist
ent signatures across Pawlikowski’s career\, ranging from 2004’s psych
osexual suspenser My Summer of Love\, where he discovered Emily Blunt\, to
2013’s post-Holocaust drama i\, which further raised his profile and ea
rned him an Oscar. With these contexts in place\, festival fans will have
even more vantages from which to savor one of this year’s most anticipat
ed titles—starring Sandra Hüller of Anatomy of a Fall and Project Hail
Mary\, herself no slouch in the versatility department! \nRecommended View
ing: My Summer of Love (2004)\, Ida (2013)\, and/or Cold War (2018)\, eac
h of which runs fewer than 90 minutes!
