The works gather ed here stage exactly this breach: each refuses the discreteness the self is supposed to maintain\, offering itself instead as a willful expenditure \, a controlled burn of the prairie’s boundary – on the border where t he living meet the dead. \nBeneath that scorched wound runs a river. Death is not an event waiting at the end of a life but a force already coursing through it. A pure differentiation\, the self already a multiplicity bein g continuously undone and reassembled beneath its own name. This current t reats the human not as a form to be preserved but as a threshold to be lau ghed at\, dissolved\, desire and death fused into a single accelerant burn ing through identity toward what is on the other side. Before the opening of the Michigan Avenue Bridge (now DuSab le Bridge) in 1920\, it was isolated from the downtown business district a nd home to only a few wealthy families\, such as the McCormicks\, Palmers\ , and Ryersons. \nThe area soon became the heart of the upper crust of Chi cago society. Sociologist Harvey Warren Zorbaugh\, who claimed that colleg e boys returning from the East Coast dubbed the area the “Gold Coast\, ” immortalized it in his book The Gold Coast and the Slum: A Sociologica l Study of Chicago’s Near North Side (University of Chicago Press\, 1929 \; reprint 1983). Before the opening of the Michigan Avenue Bridge (now DuSab le Bridge) in 1920\, it was isolated from the downtown business district a nd home to only a few wealthy families\, such as the McCormicks\, Palmers\ , and Ryersons. \nThe area soon became the heart of the upper crust of Chi cago society. Sociologist Harvey Warren Zorbaugh\, who claimed that colleg e boys returning from the East Coast dubbed the area the “Gold Coast\, ” immortalized it in his book The Gold Coast and the Slum: A Sociologica l Study of Chicago’s Near North Side (University of Chicago Press\, 1929 \; reprint 1983). The density of wealth in the Gold Coast buffered it agai nst the deterioration that threatened other portions of the North Side in the 1950s. \nGaze at ornate architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis S ullivan\, step onto a rare wood-block alleyway\, and take in Chicago’s e arly mansions\, including the Archbishop’s Residence. \n$25\, $22.50 mem bers  \nTour runs 1.5 to 2 hours. Before the opening of the Michigan Avenue Bridge (now DuSab le Bridge) in 1920\, it was isolated from the downtown business district a nd home to only a few wealthy families\, such as the McCormicks\, Palmers\ , and Ryersons. \nThe area soon became the heart of the upper crust of Chi cago society. Sociologist Harvey Warren Zorbaugh\, who claimed that colleg e boys returning from the East Coast dubbed the area the “Gold Coast\, ” immortalized it in his book The Gold Coast and the Slum: A Sociologica l Study of Chicago’s Near North Side (University of Chicago Press\, 1929 \; reprint 1983). The density of wealth in the Gold Coast buffered it agai nst the deterioration that threatened other portions of the North Side in the 1950s. \nGaze at ornate architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis S ullivan\, step onto a rare wood-block alleyway\, and take in Chicago’s e arly mansions\, including the Archbishop’s Residence. \n$25\, $22.50 mem bers  \nTour runs 1.5 to 2 hours.
