DESCRIPTION:📍The Cookhouse Restaurant \n\n\n\n🍸 Social Starts at 5:3
 0 p.m. \n\n\n\n🍽️Dinner is at 6 p.m. \n\n\n\nWest Virginia State Park
s\, in cooperation with the West Virginia Department of Agriculture\, is p
leased to announce the 2026 Farm to Table Event Series! The individual tal
ents of our state park chefs come to life as they craft unforgettable culi
nary experiences\, preparing sumptuous dinners with the freshest products
sourced from local vendors. \n\n\n\nEach dinner in the series will feature
its own unique theme\, setting\, entertainment and menu. These annual eve
nts at West Virginia’s state park restaurants create a unique summertime
experience you don’t want to miss! \n\n\n\nThe most unique and coziest
restaurant in the entire West Virginia State Park system is the Cookhouse
at Holly River. Operated by Kristi Colburn\, the Cookhouse is a full-servi
ce seasonal restaurant in the heart of Holly River State Park that delight
s patrons with high-quality products and friendly service that is reminisc
ent of walking into an old Appalachian homestead. That’s every day\, but
for the Farm to Table event\, Kristi has curated a menu sourced and inspi
red by the farms\, rivers\, and mountain traditions of West Virginia. Gues
ts will enjoy a menu that celebrates locally sourced ingredients\, handcra
fted preparation\, and rustic Appalachian comfort. \n\n\n\nKristi’s menu
includes: Charred sweet corn brushed with herb cream butter\, smoked papr
ika\, cotija-style cheese\, and fresh lime. Fresh seasonal greens\, cucumb
ers\, cherry tomatoes\, carrots\, and garden herbs tossed with our scratch
-made farmhouse Ranch dressing. Fresh-caught Rainbow Trout from the cold m
ountain waters of West Virginia\, lightly seasoned and pan-seared to a gol
den finish. Slow-simmered Appalachian stone-ground grits enriched with cre
amy local cheese and sweet cream butter. Golden cornmeal fritters made wit
h locally milled cornmeal\, sweet onions\, and buttermilk\, then fried cri
sp. Shredded cabbage and carrots are folded into a sweet cream dressing wi
th vinegar and fresh-cracked pepper. Slow-simmered baked beans layered wit
h smoky bacon\, sweet peaches\, and fire-roasted red peppers in a rich bro
wn sugar and molasses sauce with a hint of tangy spice. For dessert\, Indi
vidual Lemon Cream Pies or Key Lime Pies made in-house\, topped with fresh
ly whipped cream. \n\n\n\nBecause the venue is small\, ticket sales will b
e limited and likely sell out quickly. Camping is available at Holly River

DESCRIPTION:National Public Lands Day is a collective act of care that str
engthens our connection to the landscape and to each other. Through servic
e and celebration\, we acknowledge our place as custodians of these shared
treasures\, ensuring the American tradition of public lands endures for t
hose who will inherit them. This year\, there’s even more reason to show
up. National Public Lands Day (NPLD) falls during a landmark year as Amer
ica celebrates its 250th anniversary. What better way to mark the occasion
than by giving back to the public lands we all share. \n\n\n\nJoin the pa
rk naturalist for a hike to Miller’s Rock! This will be a moderately dif
ficult hike covering approximately 10 miles and taking around 5½ hours. M
eet at the White Oak trailhead beside the stables at 9 a.m. Along the way\
 , we’ll stop at Cranny Crow\, the Almost Heaven Swing\, Tusing Cabin\, t
he fire tower\, and finally Miller’s Rock before turning around and doin
g it all over again! Be sure to bring plenty of water\, snacks\, and comfo
rtable hiking shoes\, and come prepared for some of the park’s most icon
 ic views.
