DESCRIPTION:Maha Shivaratri is an annual festival dedicated to the Hindu g
od Shiva\, and is particularly important in the Shaivism tradition of H
induism. Unlike most Hindu festivals which are celebrated during the day\,
the Maha Shivaratri is celebrated at night. Furthermore\, unlike most Hin
du festivals which include expression of cultural revelry\, the Maha Shiva
ratri is a solemn event notable for its introspective focus\, fasting\, m
editation on Shiva\, self study\, social harmony and an all night vigil a
t Shiva temples. The celebration includes maintaining a “jaagaran“\, a
n all-night vigil and prayers\, because Shaiva Hindus mark this night as
“overcoming darkness and ignorance” in one’s life and the world thro
ugh Shiva. Offerings of fruits\, leaves\, sweets and milk to Shiva are ma
de\, some perform all-day fasting with vedic or tantric worship of Shiva\,
and some perform meditative Yoga. In Shiva temples\, “Om Namah Shivay
a“\, the sacred mantra of Shiva\, is chanted through the day. Devotee
s praise Shiva through the recitation of Shiv Chalisa. Maha Shivaratri is
celebrated over three or ten days based on the Hindu luni-solar calendar.
Every lunar month\, there is a Shivaratri (12 per year). The main festiv
al is called Maha Shivaratri\, or great Shivaratri\, which is held on 13th
night (waning moon) and 14th day of the month Phalguna. In the Gregoria
n calendar\, the day falls in either February or March.

the top things to do in Charleston\, SC\, attending a Charleston Jazz Orch
estra concert is an unforgettable experience.  If you are new to the jazz
genre and big band style\, take a risk and surprise yourself.  Our direc
tor Robert Lewis will guide you through the nuances and significance of ea
ch piece\, sharing stories behind the songs and composers.  Many arrangem
ents have been specially created by our own orchestra members and can’t
be heard anywhere else in the world.  You can get a taste of past perform
ances on our YouTube channel here. \nWhen you step through the doors of th
e Charleston Music Hall you are stepping back in time into a circa 1849 tr
ain station\, historically known as the Tower Depot.  You will hear the i
conic sounds of jazz wafting through the lobby\, reminiscent of the city
’s rich jazz history.  Stop by one of the lobby bars on the lower or up
per lever to purchase snacks\, beer\, wine or soft drinks to bring with yo
u into the theatre. Our friendly ushers will greet you and assist you in f
inding your way to your seats – there’s not a bad seat in the house! \
nOur audience is diverse and you will see patrons of all ages and walks of
  life\, including couples\, singles\, students\, families\, and groups of
friends – jazz has never met a stranger and all are welcome.  Many of o
ur guests are tourists visiting Charleston\, and some of our regular atten
dees have been coming to concerts since the beginning of the organization.
We hope that you will become one of our “regulars” as well by joini
ng the Charleston Jazz family by becoming a Season Subscriber\, Member\, S
ponsor\, Donor\, Student or Advertiser.  There is a place for YOU at Char
leston Jazz. \n  \nI have been a season ticket holder since the inception
of Charleston Jazz Orchestra for many wonderful reasons. The caliber of p
erformances are spectacular. Their musical selections appeal to all musica
l tastes regardless of age. The Music Hall is the perfect venue for such a
  group of phenomenal artists. \n★ ★ ★ ★ ★ \nLil H.\, Google Revi
