 own by Tyler Westcott & his band Folkfaces. The fest is rapidly approachin
 g its 10th year! This year the festival date is set for October 1st-4th. T
 he festival takes place at Cherry Hill Campground in Darien Center\, NY (4
 0 minutes from Buffalo\, about an hour from Rochester). Located directly a
 cross the road from Six Flags Darien Lake Amusement Park.  \nAbout Cherry 
 Hill Campground:\nThis well manicured campground has 50 campsites scattere
 d throughout its 63 acres. Each with their own picnic table and fire ring.
  A few unfurnished barebones cabins. A bathhouse with 6 flush toilets and 
 two showers\, coin operated laundry and vending machines. There are numero
 us spigots with potable water spread throughout the festival grounds. A ca
 mp store with all your camping supply needs\, snacks\, drinks and more. Lo
 cated directly across the road from Six Flags Darien Lake Amusement Park. 
 Which creates a unique backdrop for incredible sunsets with a rollercoaste
 r skyline!  \nStages:\nThe festival has three areas for performances: The 
 Greystone Stage (main stage)\, The Gage Stage (side woods stage)\, and the
  Slyboots Tent (a large circus tent for performance\, workshops\, activiti
 es and more).  \nArtists village & food vendors:\nWe host food vendors of 
 all varieties. We try our best to have a range of healthy options as well 
 as standard fair fare. We include many art and craft vendors. We are alway
 s seeking more vendors to add to our food court and artist village. You ar
 e welcome to bring your own food and drinks as well.  \nOther activities:\
 nIt’s a theme party! (Past themes include sci-fi\, denim\, hot dogs). Co
 stumes\, festive attire and decorations encouraged. We host a yearly film 
 fest\, midnight movies\, square dance\, costume contest\, raffles\, art in
 stallations\, a paint wall\, mycology foray\, & workshops with artists (pa
 st workshops have included swing dancing\, zydeco dancing\, songwriting\, 
 singing saw\, harmonica\, guitar\, bass\, fiddle\, banjo\, spoons\, washbo
 ard\, novelty instruments\, New York State fiddle tunes). There’s also a
  volleyball net\, tetherball\, horseshoe pits as well as hiking trails.  \

DESCRIPTION:West Seneca’s fourth annual BurchFest event\, a celebration 
 of the life and legacy of world-renowned artist Charles Burchfield and fam
 ily\, will take place at multiple venues throughout the town on Saturday\,
  Oct. 3. \nBorn in Ohio in 1893\, the watercolorist moved to West Seneca i
 n 1921 where he and his wife Bertha raised five children\, including Marth
 a Burchfield Richter and Catherine Burchfield Parker\, who both followed i
 n their father’s artistic footsteps. \nThe BurchFest Fall Fest on Oct. 3
 \, sponsored in part by Western New York Federal Credit Union\, will inclu
 de the following: \n• Charles Burchfield Home & Studio\, 3574 Clinton St
 . Hours: 12 to 3 p.m. Charles Burchfield’s former studio\, and the first
  floor of the Burchfield family home\, will be open for tours\, and a numb
 er of Burchfield prints will be on display across the property. Burchfield
 -related music will also be highlighted. The West Seneca Town Band’s Fre
 nch Horn Ensemble will perform from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The West Seneca Town
  Band’s French Horn Ensemble will perform from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. \n• B
 urchfield Nature & Art Center and Burchfield Park\, 2001 Union Road. Hours
 : BNAC 12 to 3 p.m.\, park open dawn to dusk. There will be a fiber arts s
 how on display in the gallery\, and various craft activities will await th

DESCRIPTION:Halloween can be explained according to different themes\, eac
 h with widespread cultural parallels: as a seasonal/calendrical event\; as
  a “ritual of reversal\;” as Samhain\, an ancient Celtic festival\; as
  All Hallows Eve\, a Christian observance\; as a witches’ sabbath\; as a
  modern pagan holiday\; and\, in America\, a special event for children. J
 oin us for an evening with Phil Stevens\, Ph.D. Associate Professor of A
 nthropology Emeritus University at Buffalo\, SUNY. \nPhil Stevens retired 
 in 2019 after 48 years in the Anthropology Department at the University at
  Buffalo\, State University of New York.  He received his B.A. in English
  from Yale in 1963\, then served with the Peace Corps in Nigeria for three
  years.  Those experiences brought him into anthropology\, and he and rec
 eived his Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 1973. \nHe has conducted a
 nthropological research in West Africa and the Caribbean.  He is the auth
 or of many publications in cultural anthropology and African studies. Amon
 g his honors are two awards for excellence in teaching\, and an African ch
 ieftaincy title!  One of his most popular courses at UB was on the anthro
 pology of Magic\, Sorcery\, and Witchcraft\; and his book on that topic wa
 s published in 2024 by Routledge.  He lectures frequently to community gr
