t it?\n\nIP is one of the first things investors and partners ask about\,
and one of the last things founders get around to. On September 17\, the O
ffice of Technology Transfer and Licensing (OTTL)\, BC's office for intell
ectual property\, is bringing a top IP attorney to the Shea Center for an
interactive session made for BC student founders. Whether you are still at
the idea stage or already selling\, come with your questions. Leave knowi

an IP attorney whose clients normally include Fortune 500 companies and v
 enture-backed startups\, at no cost to you.\n\nThis is a conversation\, no
t a lecture. Bring what you are working on.\n\nSpeakers:\n\nDan Holmander\
 nCo-Chair\, Intellectual Property Group\, Adler Pollock & Sheehan\nDan is
a registered U.S. patent attorney with over 20 years of experience advisin

DESCRIPTION:Join us for our online seminar series event hosted by MIT Medi
a Lab’s Advancing Humans with AI (AHA) research program. This event feat
ures Daniella DiPaola\, Postdoctoral Associate at the MIT Media Lab.\n\nTh
is session is part of the AHA Seminar series\, held online on Thursday\, S
eptember 17\, from 4:00 to 5:00 PM ET. It is hosted by Hope Schroeder.\n\n
Talks are all recorded and made available afterwards on YouTube\, linked o
n each event webpage.\n\nAbstract\n\nMedia literacy has long taught kids a
set of rules for navigating technology. But rules don’t adapt\, and stu
dents are now meeting general-purpose AI tools in scenarios no checklist a
nticipated.\n\nDaniella DiPaola\, Postdoctoral Associate at the MIT Media
Lab\, researches the intersection of AI\, children\, and society. In this
AHA seminar\, she makes the case for a virtue ethics approach to AI litera
cy: instead of memorizing rules\, students learn to act in line with their
own values\, understand what the technology in front of them can actually
do\, and read the setting they’re in.\n\nShe’ll share two projects: a
game where students practice virtue-based reasoning through real AI use s
cenarios\, and an in-school youth council where high schoolers draft AI po
licy for their own schools.\n\nBio\n\nDaniella DiPaola\, Ph.D.\, is a Post
doctoral Associate at the MIT Media Lab. Her work lies at the intersection
of AI\, children\, and society. She conducts human-AI interaction researc
h\, develops K-12 curricula on the responsible creation and use of AI\, an
d supports educational policy on AI in schools. Her research has been feat
ured in top ACM and IEEE conferences in human-computer interaction and STE
M education\, and her learning activities have reached millions of student
s worldwide through educational organizations such as Day of AI\, Edward M
. Kennedy Institute\, and Project STEM.\n\nDaniella earned her Ph.D. from
the MIT Media Lab\, where she also holds a Master’s degree in Media Arts
and Sciences. Her dissertation\, “AI Literacy as Civic Literacy: Develo
ping Youth as Responsible Citizens in a World with AI\,” argued for fram
ing AI literacy as a civic skill and developed programs to help youth shar
 e their voices on AI

DESCRIPTION:What are your concerns about the world we are creating? \n\n \
n\nAt Radius\, our mission is to challenge uncritical narratives of progre

and technology might better contribute to the common good. We’re a good
gathering space for those who might have questions\, for example\, about t

DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Sam Gunn (MIT)\n\nTitle: Efficient deletion of data f
rom trained AI models\n\nAbstract: How does the choice of training data in
fluence an \nAI model? This question is of central importance to \ninterpr
etability\, privacy\, data attribution\, and basic \nscience. At its core
is the data deletion problem: \nafter a reasonable amount of precomputatio
n\, \nquickly predict how the model would behave if a \ngiven subset of tr
aining data had been deleted.\nI will present a data deletion scheme capab
le of \npredicting model outputs to arbitrary precision. A \nbound on the
error can be derived from a simple \nassumption about the stability of the
AI model. In \ncontrast to the assumptions made by prior work\, \nours ap
pears to be fully compatible with deep \nlearning. We believe that this me
thod opens up a \nrange of new possibilities for theory in AI. For \ninsta
nce\, it gives the first ‘machine unlearning’ \nscheme with provable s
ecurity in the deep learning \nsetting.\n\n \n\nBased on my recent work
“How to sketch a learning \nalgorithm” at https://arxiv.org/pdf/2604.0
7328.\n\n \n\nBiography: Sam is a new CLE Moore Instructor at MIT. He was
\nadvised by Umesh Vazirani for his PhD at UC \nBerkeley. He is interested
in studying the foundations \nof AI using ideas from cryptography and the
 oretical \ncomputer science.

DESCRIPTION:Mastery over Novelty: MUGIC® - a lasting tool for musicianshi
p\n\nThis lecture explores a pivotal shift in the relationship between tec
hnology and the performing arts—from chasing novelty to cultivating mast
ery. Violinist\, composer\, and technologist Mari Kimura presents MUGIC®
(Music/User Gesture Interface Control)\, a groundbreaking motion sensor de
signed to deepen\, not replace\, musicianship. Unlike many fleeting tech i
nnovations\, MUGIC® is a lightweight\, wearable device that captures expr
essive gestures in real time\, converting them into control data for sound
\, visuals\, and interactive media. Designed with performers in mind\, it
 emphasizes expressivity\, accessibility\, and longevity—offering a susta
inable model for integrating technology into the arts\, education\, and th
erapeutic practices. Drawing from over a decade of development and real-wo
rld application—from interdisciplinary curricula to stages such as Linco
 ln Center\, the Venice Biennale\, and Expo 2025 Osaka—Kimura showcases h
ow mastering a robust\, intuitive tool fosters deeper expression and long-
term artistic growth.\n\n \n\nSpeaker Bio: \n\nMari Kimura is a visionary
violinist\, composer\, technologist\, and entrepreneur whose pioneering wo
rk bridges performance\, innovation\, and education. A recipient of the Gu
ggenheim Fellowship\, the Fromm Commission from Harvard\, and a residency
at IRCAM in Paris\, she was awarded the 2025 SEAMUS Award for lifetime ach
ievement in electroacoustic music. The Carnegie Corporation recognized her
as an “Immigrant: Pride of America.”\n\nInternationally acclaimed for
inventing the subharmonics technique\, enabling violinists to play an oct
ave below the instrument’s natural range\, she was hailed by The New Yor
k Times as a “virtuoso playing at the edge.” Her music\, integrating c
ontemporary composition with motion-sensor technology\, has been commissio
ned by ensembles such as the Cassatt String Quartet\, Harvard New Music En
semble and others. An active performer and improviser\, she has premiered
works by John Adams\, Luciano Berio\, and Tania León\, and collaborated w
ith artists such as Jim O’Rourke\, Henry Kaiser and Elliott Sharp. A lon
gtime collaborator on the ERC project involving SOMAX — an AI-improvisat
ion engine developed at IRCAM — she regularly performs at IRCAM's ImproT
ech festivals.\n\nKimura joined UC Irvine’s ICIT program as a Professor
of Music in 2017 and retired in June 2026\, when she was named Professor E
meritus. She continues to teach as a graduate faculty at Juilliard since 1
 998. In 2020\, she launched MUGIC® (Music/User Gesture Interface Control)
\, a compact motion sensor that transforms physical gestures into data for
controlling music\, visuals\, and beyond. MUGIC® is now used in major ve
nues—including Lincoln Center\, the Venice Biennale\, and Osaka Expo 202
5—and at leading institutions such as Harvard\, Juilliard\, and Berlin
’s University of the Arts (UdK).\n\nDuring the pandemic\, Kimura earned
an MBA from UC Irvine’s Merage School and was recognized by the U.S. Hou
se and California Legislature for her achievements in innovation and entre
 preneurship. https://www.mugicmotion.com
