DESCRIPTION:Showcasing the most important collection of Belgian symbolist
art in private hands—assembled by Charles Hack over more than four decad
es—the exhibition features over 150 major works by Belgian and other Eur
opean artists in their orbit. Shadows and Light charts a world of dualitie
s: dream and reality\, modernism and tradition\, music and silence\, myste
ry and revelation. Together\, these works offer a counterpart and counterp
oint to the sun-drenched landscapes of contemporary neo-impressionism\, as
serting a distinct and rival presence in Belgium.\n\nNew research illumina
tes the complex world of Belgian artists at the vanguard of the internatio
nal symbolist movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centurie
s—a pivotal moment in the development of modern art. Composed of ten “
movements\,” the exhibition unfolds in the galleries as a visual symphon
y with artists engaging with vital issues of modern life\, including quest
ions of faith\, social justice\, historical identity\, and psychological a
nalysis. Building on the historic tradition of Belgian and Flemish art\, t
he exhibition demonstrates how these artists’ works are innovative in st
yle and personal vision\, significantly expanding the language of art.\n\n
Belgian artists represented include: Cécile Cauterman\, William Degouve d
 e Nuncques\, Léon Frederic\, Fernand Khnopff\, Georges Le Brun\, Xavier M
 ellery\, Constantin Meunier\, George Minne\, Armand Rassenfosse\, and Léo
n Spilliaert. With forty-six works by Spilliaert\, the exhibition seeks to
introduce North American audiences to one of Belgium’s most enigmatic a
nd celebrated artists. Paintings by Gustave Moreau\, Dante Gabriel Rossett
i\, František Kupka\, and Koloman Moser\, as well as works from the McMul
len Museum’s collection\, elucidate the rich context of international sy
mbolist art\, in which Belgians played a leading role.\n\nShadows and Ligh
t is accompanied by a catalogue\, edited by Jeffery Howe\, with contributi
ons from American and Belgian scholars Anne Adriaens-Pannier\, Claude Cern
 uschi\, Edouard Derom\, Alison Hokanson\, Howe\, and Oliver Wunsch\, provi
ding contextual background to the time period and the Belgian avant-garde
and offering fresh examinations of Fernand Khnopff\, George Minne\, and L
éon Spilliaert.\n\nOrganized by the McMullen Museum\, Shadows and Light h
as been curated by Jeffery Howe and is underwritten by Boston College with
major support from the Patrons of the McMullen Museum and Mary Ann ’67

DESCRIPTION:Join us for our online seminar series event hosted by MIT Medi
a Lab's Advancing Humans with AI (AHA) research program. This event featur
es Ziv Epstein\, Postdoctoral Associate at the MIT Schwarzman College of C
omputing.\n\nThis session is a bonus addition to the AHA Seminar series\,
held in person on Friday\, September 18\, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM ET at the
MIT Media Lab\, 6F Lecture Hall 633 (E14-633)\, and streamed live online.
It is co-hosted by Prof. Karrie Karahalios and AHA.\n\nTalks are all reco
rded and made available afterwards on YouTube\, linked on each event webpa
ge.\n\nAbstract\n\nAlgorithmic amplifiers like social media and AI chatbot
s play an increasingly important role in how our society operates. But des
pite being built with noble intentions\, these algorithmic systems have de
monstrated a fundamental misalignment with their users' values: resulting
in the amplification of low-quality information designed to reward\, hack
and sensationalize. In this talk\, I'll discuss new ways to measure and st
eer algorithmic systems to align them with users' values. In a first serie
s of lab and field experiments in the context of sharing misinformation on
social media\, I show that this can be mitigated by steering behavior via
reminding people of their own values. In a second project\, I introduce a
novel personalization architecture for measuring the expression of basic
human values. I will then apply it to a large-scale audit of X's ranking a
lgorithm to reveal how subtle value tensions in users' engagement behavior
produces a fundamental misalignment between algorithmic amplification and
user's self-stated values. To close\, I will discuss ongoing work on alig
ning AI systems for collective goals of diversity and autotelicity\, focus
ing on the domain of human creativity and creative production.\n\nBio\n\nZ
iv Epstein is a computer scientist\, designer\, and computational social s
cientist\, and a SERC Postdoctoral Associate at the MIT Schwarzman College
of Computing\, where he runs the Medium is the Mess SERC Group. He was pr
eviously a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centere
d AI and completed his PhD at the MIT Media Lab. His research brings a (mo
 re-than-)human-centered approach to sociotechnical systems\, translating i
nsights from design and the social sciences into generative AI and social
media platforms\, with current work on embedding individual and societal v
 alues into ranking algorithms.

DESCRIPTION:The treatment of public and private spaces as commodities has
a long and varied history across geographies the world over\, and scholars
of capitalism tend to treat it as an economic and social formation charac
terized in terms of production\, labor relations\, and exploitation. But t
here has been far less attention given to the commodification of land and
housing as sites of social reproduction\, in other words\, the spaces of h
ome\, neighborhood\, and community through which everyday life is sustaine
 d. Unlike spaces of production (e.g.\, the workplace)\, it is in communiti
es and homes that domestic work\, care work\, and mutual aid take place. B
ut the socially reproductive function of these sites is jeopardized by pro
cesses of commodification that reshape the city. So\, we ask: what does th
e transformation of land and shelter into investible real estate mean for
city governance\, urban development\, housing rights movements\, and the l
ived experience of city residents? And what are the effects of capitalist
processes such as privatization\, financialization\, assetization\, and te
chnification/digitalization on spaces of social reproduction? \n\nThis wor
kshop will bring together an interdisciplinary group of scholars from MIT
 — and outside MIT — for the following sessions:\n\n10:00-10:30 | Works
 hop welcome and introductions\n\n10:30-12:30 | Financialization\, Technifi
cation\, and Futurity in Real Estate\, moderated by Jason Jackson and feat
uring conversation with Philip Ashton (UIC)\, Desiree Fields (UC Berkeley)
\, Huma Gupta (MIT)\, and Rachel Weber (Harvard).\n\n2:00-3:30 | Debt and
Transformations in Economic and Urban Governance\, moderated by Erica C. J
ames and featuring conversation with devin michelle bunten (MIT)\, Prentis
s Dantzler (UToronto)\, Michael Glass (Boston College)\, and Sarah Quinn (
 Washington).\n\n3:45-5:15 | Resistance to Dispossession\, Displacement\, a
nd Extraction\, moderated by Catherine D'Ignazio and featuring conversatio
n with Mariana Arcaya (MIT)\, Eric Robsky Huntley (MIT)\, Scott Markley (N
ational Zoning Atlas)\, Chenab Navalkha (Johns Hopkins)\, and Jacob Udell

DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Sam Gunn (MIT)\n\nTitle: Efficient deletion of data f
rom trained AI models\n\nAbstract: How does the choice of training data in
fluence an \nAI model? This question is of central importance to \ninterpr
etability\, privacy\, data attribution\, and basic \nscience. At its core
is the data deletion problem: \nafter a reasonable amount of precomputatio
n\, \nquickly predict how the model would behave if a \ngiven subset of tr
aining data had been deleted.\nI will present a data deletion scheme capab
le of \npredicting model outputs to arbitrary precision. A \nbound on the
error can be derived from a simple \nassumption about the stability of the
AI model. In \ncontrast to the assumptions made by prior work\, \nours ap
pears to be fully compatible with deep \nlearning. We believe that this me
thod opens up a \nrange of new possibilities for theory in AI. For \ninsta
nce\, it gives the first ‘machine unlearning’ \nscheme with provable s
ecurity in the deep learning \nsetting.\n\n \n\nBased on my recent work
“How to sketch a learning \nalgorithm” at https://arxiv.org/pdf/2604.0
7328.\n\n \n\nBiography: Sam is a new CLE Moore Instructor at MIT. He was
\nadvised by Umesh Vazirani for his PhD at UC \nBerkeley. He is interested
in studying the foundations \nof AI using ideas from cryptography and the
 oretical \ncomputer science.

DESCRIPTION:Boston University Art Galleries presents Between the Bylines i
 n Stone Gallery\, from September 2 - December 10\, 2026.\n\n \n\nThe exhib
ition curated by Susan Bright investigates one crucial issue – that of a
bsence. It looks at who gets represented in the newspaper and how that rep
resentation takes shape. It takes as its medium one that is disappearing.
The featured artists undertake interventions into newspapers by concealing
\, obstructing\, redacting\, or disguising elements of the medium to highl
ight this representation (or lack of it). This invites the audience to con
template issues of subjectivity\, trust\, and control in press coverage.\n

 a Comani\, Toni Pepe\, Anne Eastman\, Odette England\, Laura Letinsky\, Lo
 rie Novak\, Sa’dia Rehman\, Donna Ruff\, Lorna Simpson\, Mickey Smith\,
Clare Strand\, and Carmen Winant.\n\n \n\nThe galleries are open Tuesday t
hrough Saturday\, 11am to 5pm. Between the Bylines will be closed for Than
 ksgiving from Sunday\, November 22 through Monday\, November 30.\n\n \n\nA

DESCRIPTION:Join CLA Archivists Billy McCarthy and Zachary Bodnar at 14 Be
acon for a tour exploring records from five centuries of Boston’s church
es. \nCelebrate the anniversary of Boston’s founding by exploring the ma
ny historic churches that have made Boston unique. This tour will feature
 records\, images\, postcards\, pew plans\, a 1669 land deed\, and scrapboo
ks from both famous churches\, such as Park Street Church and Old South Ch
urch\, to lesser-known churches\, such as Salem and Mariners’ Church and
Berkeley Temple Congregational Church. \nHeld in the CLA’s historic rea
ding room at 14 Beacon Street\, these monthly collection tours connect res
idents of Beacon Hill and the greater Boston region with original\, rarely
seen materials in the CLA’s collections. \nThis event will run from 12
to 1 pm and will begin with a short talk by Billy and Zachary\, followed b
y plenty of time for browsing items from our collections and asking questi
ons. \nThanks to the generosity of the Beacon Hill Civic Association\, the
se programs are offered completely free of charge to the public. Reservati
ons via Eventbrite are appreciated but not required.

DESCRIPTION:Date: Friday\, September 18\, 2026\nTime: 12:00pm – 1:00pm\
nLocation: Simons Center Conference room 46-6011. Zoom: https://mit.zoom.u
 s/j/94794483445\n\n \n\nSpeaker: Rani Borbara\, Ph.D.\nAffiliation: Simon
s Postdoctoral Fellow\, Steven Flavell Laboratory\, Picower Institute for
Learning and Memory\, MIT\n\n \n\nTalk title: The Connectome in Use: From
anatomical wiring to functional organization in the behaving C. elegans br
 ain\n\nAbstract: A connectome is a map of possible interactions \, not a r
ecord of how those possibilities are used by a behaving nervous system. Sy
naptic efficacy\, electrical coupling\, neuromodulation\, and internal sta
te continually reshape which anatomical pathways contribute to ongoing act
ivity. The same wiring diagram can therefore support different dynamical r
egimes\, while similar population dynamics can arise through different cir
cuit routes. The central challenge is to understand how anatomical connect
ivity is expressed as functional organization.\n\n \n\nC. elegans makes it
possible to examine this problem across an entire nervous system at cellu
lar resolution. Its neurons can be identified across animals\, multiple la
yers of its connectome have been mapped\, and brain-wide activity can be r
ecorded during natural behavior. Using recordings from more than 150 freel
y moving animals\, we train cross-animal models to predict each neuron’s
activity from the rest of the population and derive cell-class-resolved m
aps of conditional functional dependence. We use these maps to ask which r
elationships generalize across individuals\, how shared low-dimensional br
ain states contribute to apparent interactions\, and where the remaining s
tructure aligns with chemical synapses\, gap junctions\, and peptidergic s
ignaling. These maps provide a quantitative description of the functional
organization reproducibly expressed in whole-brain activity—and of the s
elective and imperfect imprint of anatomy upon it.\n\n \n\nThis work estab
lishes a baseline against which perturbations can be read: activation and
silencing of identified neurons\, manipulation of neuromodulatory systems\
, and mutations in conserved autism-associated synaptic genes can each be
used to test how defined changes to circuit components reorganize brain-wi
 de functional dependencies and behavior.

DESCRIPTION:Women\, Spinning\, and Resistance: Stacey Fraser \nIn the year
s leading up to the American Revolution\, New England women played an impo
rtant role in resisting British policies through their everyday lives and
 work. On August 31\, 1769\, forty-five women in Lexington\, Massachusetts\
, gathered for a spinning protest—one of more than sixty such demonstrat
ions held throughout New England between 1768 and 1770. By spinning wool a
nd linen yarn together\, these women demonstrated their ability to produce
the textiles needed by their families while rejecting reliance on importe
d British goods. \nJoin Stacey Fraser for a fascinating look at how women
used their social roles\, domestic skills\, and community networks to part
icipate in the growing resistance to British rule. Discover how these seem
ingly everyday acts of spinning and boycotting became powerful forms of pr
otest in the years leading up to the American Revolutionary War. \nAbout t
he Speaker:\nStacey Fraser is Assistant Curator at the Scottish Rite Mason
ic Museum & Library in Lexington\, Massachusetts. She recently curated an
exhibition exploring Lexington’s role in the American Revolution and cha
ired the museum’s 50th anniversary committee. Stacey also serves on the
advisory board of LexSeeHer\, a Lexington nonprofit dedicated to making wo

 a. The term “house” was derived from The Warehouse\, a Chicago club wh
ere the music was often played. Though the essence of the dance is purely
freestyle\, popular steps performed in NYC dance clubs were eventually rec
ognized as “house dance foundation.” Members of NYC’s Dance Fusion w

DESCRIPTION:Matt Brewer's Dissertation Defense. Open to members of the phi
losophy department. \nTitle: "Towards a Philosophy of Plate Tectonics: Plu
 ralism in Explanation\, Evidence\, and Classification"\n\nAbstract:\n\nThi
s dissertation contributes to the traditionally neglected\, but now rapidl
y growing\, field of philosophy of the geosciences by providing a philosop
hical analysis of the many forms of pluralism that shape scientific practi
ce in plate tectonics. Geoscientists studying plate tectonics face numerou
s epistemic challenges\, but these challenges make the theory ripe for phi
losophical analysis. I examine three such epistemic challenges in the cent
ral chapters of this dissertation\, and I argue that each challenge calls
for a distinct form of scientific pluralism\, which I assess for its metho
dological strengths and weaknesses.\n\nAfter introducing plate tectonics a
nd motivating the philosophical relevance of the project in the first chap
ter\, in chapter 2\, I take a history of philosophy of science (HOPOS) app
roach to uncover a variety of different forms of scientific pluralism from
the methodological writings of a key 19th century figure in the history o
 f the geosciences\, Thomas C. Chamberlin\, whose work is largely unknown t
o philosophers of science. Although Chamberlin does not use the language o
 f pluralism\, I use his so-called Method of Multiple Working Hypotheses (a
nd later variations on this method) as a foundation for articulating three
varieties of scientific pluralism. In the subsequent chapters\, I show h
ow the three varieties of pluralism emerge within central debates in conte
mporary plate tectonics.\n\nI address the first debate in chapter 3\, whic
h concerns the role of mechanistic explanation in the rejection of contine
ntal drift and in the acceptance of plate tectonics\, and how the mechanis
m(s) driving plate tectonics remain unresolved to this day. The epistemic
challenge here is the inaccessibility of the interior of the Earth\, and t
he different ways the mechanistic components of the processes driving plat
e tectonics can be carved up. The philosophical strategy that emerges is a
nonintegrative explanatory pluralism\, which I show to be compatible with
metaphysical monism.\n\nIn chapter 4\, I turn to another scientific debat
e in plate tectonics: the timing of the onset of tectonic plate motion in
the history of the Earth. The epistemic challenge here is the inaccessibil
ity of deep time\, as such\, my discussion draws on recent work in the phi
losophy of the historical sciences. I argue that the debate about timing t
urns on a plurality of approaches to the nature of evidence\, and specific
ally whether or not absence of evidence should be taken as evidence of abs
ence. While the standard answer says “no\,” I defend what I call a pra
gmatic approach to the absence of evidence\, which is based in a pluralism
about evidential standards.\nIs plate tectonics unique to Earth or does i
t occur on other planets or moons within our solar system and beyond? The
epistemic challenge here is the inaccessibility of distant worlds\, and it
poses what I call in chapter 5 the “tectonic N = 1 Problem\,” in anal
ogy with the uniqueness of life on Earth. I argue that this issue also tur
ns on how scientists choose to define plate tectonics\, and how broadly or
narrowly the classificatory categories are construed. For example\, the m
ovement of ice on Jupiter’s moon Europa satisfies some ways of defining
plate tectonics\, but not others. For the sake of making progress on this
 issue\, I defend a classificatory or taxonomic pluralism.\n\nFinally\, in
 a brief concluding chapter\, I assess the project as a contribution to a n
ovel “philosophy of plate tectonics\,” summarizing the key scientific
debates within plate tectonics and the many different forms of scientific
pluralism they prescribe. I conclude by opening the door for future work d
rawing on another element of Chamberlin’s philosophy – pragmatism –
in the project of developing a philosophy of the geosciences\, of which th
is dissertation on the philosophy of plate tectonics is a part.

: Multi-Physics Mechanics of Soft Materials in Complex Environments\n\nAbs
tract: Soft materials are making the transition from controlled lab enviro
nments to real-world scenarios\, suchas flexible batteries\, bioartificial
organs\, implantable biomedical devices\, and soft robotics. In real-worl
denvironments\, soft materials will inevitably face a broad set of thermod
 ynamic driving forces— thermal\,chemical\, electric\, and magnetic—tha
t strongly couple with their mechanical behavior. For instance\,changes in
temperature can degrade a material’s ability to sustain mechanical load
s\, quenching cantrigger phase separation and microstructure reorganizatio
n\, and mechanical loading may enhancetransport or chemical reactivity. Th
erefore\, to successfully enable the use of soft materials fortransformati
ve applications\, it is crucial to develop a fully coupled description of
their response tocomplex environments. In this talk\, I will discuss two r
esearch projects that model multi-physics couplings in soft materials and
demonstrate the fundamental role of multi-physics mechanics in biology and
engineering. First\, I will discuss our work explaining how cells expertl
y combine multiple driving forces to organize their internal materials int
o membraneless compartments\, and how the same fundamental mechanics can b
e applied towards the design of novel materials. I will then turn to cryop
reservation\, a frontier with transformative potential for human health: i
n the U.S. alone\, approximately 17 patients die each day awaiting an orga
n transplant\, a crisis driven by the inability to store organs long-term.
A primary failure mechanism is the severe thermo-mechanical damage tissue
s sustain during freezing. I will present our recent work on predictive mo
deling of freezing-induced damage in soft materials\, which can serve as a
powerful tool for understanding the mechanistic underpinnings of the resu
lting injury and for designing improved cryopreservation strategies.\n\nBi

inMechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. H
is current research interestslie in the multi-physics mechanics of materia
ls\, with the goal of understanding how materials respond tocomplex real-w
orld environments\, how multi-physics couplings can be applied towards the
design ofbetter materials\, and how biological systems—multi-physics by
their very nature—take advantage ofthese couplings in their function. H

DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Ilya Dumanski (SLMath)\n\nTitle: Chiralization of int
egrable systems\n\nAbstract: Given a symplectic variety X\, one can define
its chiral quantization — a sheaf of vertex algebras\, which deforms th
e jet bundle of X. The study of such structures is motivated by mathematic
al physics. Classification\, or even construction\, of chiral quantization
s is a hard problem\, with a lot of recent progress. In this talk\, we add
ress this problem in the case when X is a smooth completely integrable sys
tem. We use the method of formal geometry (as applied by Fedosov and Bezru
kavnikov—Kaledin in the study of ordinary quantizations) to construct ch
iral quantizations in this case. Then we discuss the possibility of chiral
izing the BFN Coulomb branches using this technique.\n\nZoom: https://mit.

ffiliation: Professor\, MIT Mechanical Engineering\n\n \n\nTalk title: Fab
rication-Integrated Design for Mechanical Systems Made from Unconventional
  Materials\n\n \n\nAbstract: \nFabrication history can fundamentally deter
 mine the geometry\, interfaces\, defects\, reliability\, and performance o
f mechanical systems. The Fabrication-Integrated Design Lab (FIDL) at MIT
extends concepts from traditional Design for Manufacturing (DFM) to explor
e how the performance of structures and machines emerges from the coupled
interaction of design\, materials\, and fabrication processes. In developi
ng mechanical systems made from unconventional materials\, from soft robot
s for deep-sea exploration to glass masonry\, we treat manufacturing as a
central variable in the design and development process. Through examples i
 n soft robotics\, I will show how fabrication-aware computational design\,
  new molding processes\, and materials-selection and interface-processing
strategies can expand accessible design spaces and improve reliability. I
will also demonstrate how these ideas enable system-level integration of s
 ensing\, mechanical programming\, and untethered power. Finally\, I will e
xtend these principles to additive manufacturing with recycled glass\, ill
ustrating how fabrication-integrated thinking can bridge seemingly dispara
te material systems and contribute to broader frameworks for designing rel
iable mechanical systems whose behavior is inseparable from how they are m
ade. \n\n \n\nBiography:\nKaitlyn Becker is an assistant professor in the
Mechanical Engineering Department at MIT\, holds a class of 1948 Career De

wn to 3.5km and were featured on the covers of the journals Soft Robotics

it in the American Natural History Museum. She was a recipient of the Ruth

ram\, Reflections in the Long Night is a group exhibition organized by Cur
atorial Assistant Madeline McGann. The exhibition explores divergent queer

finding oneself within cultural heteronormativity and amidst the pressure
s of everyday life. This show proposes queerness as a driving force of emp
owerment through play\, revelation\, and dérive\, felt in flickers of war

orm/style you are teaching?\nCapoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form develo
ped in Brazil by enslaved Africans and their descendants\, bringing togeth
er elements of martial arts\, movement\, music\, and cultural expression.
We teach Capoeira Contemporânea\, which draws from the traditions of both
Capoeira Regional and Capoeira Angola while incorporating influences that
have developed throughout Brazil. This style reflects Capoeira’s contin
ued evolution while maintaining a strong connection to its history and cul
tural roots. \nWhat background\, training\, and or relationship do you hav
e with this style/technique/class subject?\nWith over 50 years of continuo
us Capoeira practice and more than 40 years of teaching experience\, I fou
nded Associação de Capoeira Mandingueiros dos Palmares (Capoeira MdP) in
1977 in Belo Horizonte\, Brazil. Our practice of Capoeira Contemporânea
is deeply rooted in the traditions of Capoeira Regional developed by Mestr
e Bimba. My Mestre\, Mestre Itapuã\, was a direct student of Mestre Bimba
\, connecting our work directly to this important lineage. Throughout my l
 ife\, I have dedicated myself to practicing\, teaching\, performing\, and
sharing Capoeira in Brazil\, Massachusetts\, and communities across the Un
ited States. \nFinish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this
style because…\nI am passionate about teaching this style because Capoei
ra has been a part of my life for more than five decades and has become so
mething I now have the privilege of passing on to others. Teaching alongsi
de my sons makes that journey even more meaningful\, allowing us to share
Capoeira as a family while preserving our heritage\, strengthening our com
munity\, and introducing the art to new generations. \nACCOMPANISTS\, ASSI

ontramestre Chuvisco\, Guthemberg was born in Belo Horizonte\, Brazil\, an
d grew up in Boston\, Massachusetts. Training since childhood\, he has tau
ght classes\, led workshops\, and represented Capoeira in the US\, Brazil\
, and Colombia. He is also the organizer of “Vadiar Boston\,” an annua
l event that brings together communities to celebrate and share Capoeira.
\nJason Ri: Known as Contramestre Compasso\, Jason began training Capoeira
in 2001 and has been training consistently ever since. In addition to lea
rning the traditions\, movements\, music\, and oral history of Capoeira\,
Compasso is interested in how Capoeira empowers communities and individual
s through collaboration\, challenging training\, and pedagogy. He teaches
classes in Arlington. Compasso is also interested in how mindset and psych
ology can enhance training\, performance\, and overall mental health. \nTh

and more information\nWhat Time Is It\, Mr. Fox? will return to the Old Sl
oop Friday\, September 18\, to open the 17th season for the popular Old Sl
oop Presents performing arts series. Miranda Aisling will open the show. \
nNamed after a Victorian children’s game\, What Time Is It\, Mr. Fox? is
a five-person band from Gloucester that plays a genre blending combinatio
n of soul\, folk\, and cabaret. Their original songs marry rich lyrical im
agery with a cinematic sensibility\, exploring themes of love\, spirituali
ty\, sexuality\, and identity. The group’s performances range from intim
ate coffeehouses and living room concerts to music halls and theatrical pr
oductions accompanied by circus performers and animation. What Time Is It\
, Mr. Fox? performed at the first Old Sloop concert in 2009\, and it is al
ways a special occasion when they return. \nMiranda Aisling began teaching
herself guitar while not practicing piano when she was seven years old. A
isling’s original folk songs\, now performed on both piano and guitar\,
combine a frank vulnerability with social commentary. A classically traine
d pianist who threw aside Bach for the Indigo Girls\, Aisling brings the f
eeling of a folk festival with her approachable performances and stories b
oth spoken and sung. She began writing songs at the age of thirteen under
the influence of the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival\, which she has attended m
ost years since she was born. \nThe performance will take place at 7:30pm
in the handicap-accessible Fellowship Hall of the First Congregational Chu
rch of Rockport\, 12 School St.

DESCRIPTION:First Church Friday Folk Coffeehouse presents its first concer
t of the 2026-2027 season featuring Tunes and Tales by Ken and Kenny at Fi
rst Church and Parish Dedham 670 High Street\, Dedham on Friday\, Septembe
r 18\, 2026 at 7:30 pm in the Auditorium. There will be refreshments for p
urchase.  Tickets are $20 and are available online at Folk Coffeehouse |
dedhamuu and at the door.  Doors open at 7:00 pm.\nKenny Raskin and Ken C
larkson\, make their debut at First Church. Both Ken and Kenny have had th
eir own musical careers as singer/songwriters\, but revel in the camarader
ie of playing together. Their style is Americana\, with a touch of swing a
s well. While their careers have been different\, their love of acoustic m
usic and singing harmony has brought them together and found them playing
everywhere from living rooms to music festivals. Kenny was 8 years old whe
n his father’s friend Harry gave him a ukulele. He played that ukulele u
ntil he was 11 years old. Then he discovered girls and promptly bought a g
uitar. That ukulele\, however\, was the gateway into a fifty-year plus lov
e affair with playing music on multiple instruments\, including banjo\, ma
ndolin and bass.  In 2018\, Kenny released his debut CD\, MY GREATEST HIT
S! and in 2022 followed it with his second CD\, Peace of Mind. He is also
known internationally as an accomplished actor and theatre clown\, having
appeared on Broadway and with Cirque du Soleil\, as well as on television
and variety stages in the US\, France\, England\, Chile\, Germany and Chin
a.\nKen Clarkson picked up the banjo at age 10 and never put it down\, exc
ept on occasion to paddle wild rivers as a park ranger in the arctic of Al
aska\, to climb trees on the sides of volcanoes in Hawaii\, to protect end
angered birds\, or to lead youth deep into the coastal redwoods of Califor
nia. Along the way he also picked up guitars\, mandolins\, ukeleles\, dobr
os\, and the occasional didgeridoo.  His happy place is somewhere in the
woods teaching wilderness skills to kids\, surfing at dawn\, or playing hi
s banjo to his pet chickens. He is the Auxiliary Program Director at Birch
es School in Lincoln\, MA. Ken is the songwriter\, instrumentalist\, and m
ischief maker behind the group The Radiolarians and also lead banjo\, dobr
o and vocalist for the Boston area  band The Familiar Strangers.\nFirst C
hurch and Parish Dedham Unitarian Universalist was first gathered in 1638
and is located in Dedham Center at 670 High Street. Its lively music progr
am includes choir at Sunday services and the Parish Players theater troupe
\, in addition to our Friday Folk Coffeehouse events.

nThe Queer Met Gala of Massachusetts is back! Queer AF\, the Art+Fashion s
how fundraiser benefitting Love Your Labels\, returns to Mechanics Hall in
Worcester on Friday\, Sept. 18\, 2026\, and invites you to be Queer AF in
Denim. \nDenim is more than just a fabric. It is a record of labor\, resi
stance\, reinvention\, and style. This textile’s history begins with exp
loitation and enslaved labor. Rugged and transcendent\, the garment became
a symbol of resistance\, solidarity with the working class\, and youthful
rebellion. From patchwork to embellishments\, from indigo to acid wash\,
this textile embodies our uniqueness and authenticity.  \nQueer AF uplift
 s LGBTQIA+ artists with a dazzling display of fashion\, drag\, dance\, and
music. Our 2026 show will be a multitude of textures. At Queer AF in Deni
m\, designers will imagine new tales to tell with this storied fabric\, an
d shades of blue will pop on the runway. Drag and performance artists will
shine on stage. Our home-grown runway features dozens of local models str
utting in bespoke looks. Join us and let your imagination and creativity d
rive — we encourage you to take a well-loved\, worn-in pair of jeans to
the sewing machine for an evolution. What is your story\, and how can you
weave it into one of the world’s most beloved fabrics?  \nIf you need a
starting point for inspiration\, consider the four denim archetypes Queer
AF is exploring this summer: \n\n	The Renegade: This punk-rocker or outsi
der doesn’t play by the rules\n	The Throwback: This character is all abo
ut vintage charm\, reinventing storied looks\n	The Shapeshifter: A style c
hameleon\, this persona knows fashion transcends norms and binaries\n	The
Truthteller: This historian honors the realities and complexities of denim
and the people who wear it\n\nThe magic of Queer AF is in presenting ours
elves authentically: Every body is beautiful and worthy of the spotlight.
Get ready to turn up and turn out for the ultimate night of queer joy\, ar
t\, and community. Stay tuned and follow @thequeeraf on Instagram this sum
mer as we announce headlining talent\, drag performers\, designers\, and m

DESCRIPTION:At Native Sun\, we believe being part of the cannabis communit
y means being part of the larger community\, too. This August\, our team c
ame together with Coast Cannabis for a team beach cleanup at M Street Beac
h in South Boston\, helping give back to one of the neighborhood’s most-
loved outdoor spaces. M Street Beach is part of South Boston’s beautiful
waterfront and is enjoyed by residents\, visitors\, and beachgoers throug
hout the year. For our teams\, it was a great opportunity to step away fro
m the dispensary and spend some time giving back to the community we’re
proud to be part of. Giving Back to SouthieAs a local dispensary in Boston
\, we’re proud to call South Boston home. Our connection to the neighbor
hood goes beyond serving customers — we want to be an active part of the
community and contribute to the places that make Boston special. This Aug
ust\, the Native Sun and Coast Cannabis teams grabbed bags\, gloves\, and
cleanup supplies and headed down to M Street Beach. Together\, we walked a
long the shoreline and surrounding areas\, picking up litter and helping k
eep the beach clean for everyone who enjoys Southie’s waterfront. For us
\, community involvement is about more than one event. It’s about showin
g up\, working together\, and finding meaningful ways to make a positive i
mpact in the neighborhoods where we live and work. A South Boston Cannabis
Community CollaborationThe cleanup was also a great opportunity for two l
ocal cannabis businesses to come together outside of the dispensary.Native
Sun and Coast Cannabis are both part of Massachusetts’ growing cannabis
community\, but collaborations like this remind us that local cannabis bu
sinesses can contribute to the broader community in many different ways. S
outh Boston has a strong neighborhood identity\, and its waterfront is a m
ajor part of what makes the area special. From M Street Beach to Carson Be
ach and Pleasure Bay\, the South Boston shoreline provides a place for the
community to gather\, relax\, and enjoy the outdoors. We were proud to sp
end part of our August helping take care of it. From the Dispensary to the
BeachAt Native Sun\, our goal has always been to create a welcoming\, jud
gment-free experience for cannabis consumers. Whether someone is visiting
a South Boston dispensary for the first time or is a longtime cannabis cus
tomer\, we want everyone to feel comfortable asking questions\, discoverin
g products\, and finding something that works for them. That same communit
y-first approach extends beyond our dispensary doors. Throughout the year\
, Native Sun works with local businesses\, artists\, vendors\, organizatio
ns\, and community groups to create opportunities for people to connect. F
rom local markets and pop-ups to community events and neighborhood cleanup
s\, we’re always looking for new ways to be involved. The M Street Beach
cleanup with Coast Cannabis was another example of what can happen when l
ocal businesses come together with a shared goal. Looking for the Best Edi
bles in Boston?Community is at the heart of what we do\, but of course\, N
ative Sun is also here to help Boston-area cannabis consumers find product
s they love.If you’re searching for the best edibles in Boston\, stop by
Native Sun and explore our selection of Coast Cannabis gummies and other
edible products from Massachusetts cannabis brands. Our product selection
changes regularly\, giving shoppers the opportunity to discover new flavor
s\, brands\, and products. Not sure where to start? Our team is always hap
py to help you explore your options and find something that fits your pref
 erences and experience level.Whether you’re a Southie local\, a Boston r
esident\, or visiting the area\, we want your experience at Native Sun to
 be approachable\, comfortable\, and judgment-free. More Than CannabisThe A
ugust beach cleanup with Coast Cannabis was a simple reminder of something
we believe strongly at Native Sun: being a local business means showing u
p for your community. We’re grateful to everyone from both teams who too
k the time to get outside\, work together\, and help take care of M Street
Beach. We look forward to continuing to partner with other local business
es and organizations throughout Boston and Massachusetts. From community c
leanups to local markets\, brand collaborations\, and neighborhood events\
, there are always new ways to connect under the sun. Find Upcoming Events
at Native SunThe M Street Beach cleanup was just one of the ways Native S
un stays connected with the South Boston community. Throughout the year\,
we host and participate in local events\, pop-ups\, markets\, collaboratio
ns\, and community activities around Boston and beyond. Looking for South
Boston events\, things to do in Southie\, or upcoming events at your local
Boston dispensary? Check out the upcoming events at Native Sun. Our event
s calendar is regularly updated with new opportunities to connect with loc
 al businesses\, cannabis brands\, artists\, vendors\, and members of the c
ommunity. Whether you’re stopping by our South Boston dispensary\, looki
