DESCRIPTION:Project Name:  Elkhorn Yurt  \nProject Dates:  September
18-20  \nThis is the fourth year that ITA and Idaho Parks and Recreatio
n have partnered to help clear and open trails in the Idaho City Yurt trai
l system!  After big windstorms over the winter\, there are more down tr
ees than typical\, so lots of fun crosscut work is expected! This area is
known for its scenic views and wide variety of recreational activities al
l year long. We'll spend a weekend working mostly on clearing logs and b
rushing with potential for some tread repair and replacing trail signs. I
n the evening\, volunteers have been invited to stay at the Elkhorn Yurt
and take advantage of its kitchen\, fire pit\, and outhouse.  The Yurt
sleeps six\, with lots of tent spots around too. Join us for some glamp
ing\, saw work\, and camaraderie!   \nMore info on the yurts at the ID
PR Yurt Website.    \nProject information is subject to change. Crew l
eaders will communicate via email. Failure to respond to your crew leader
may result in being dropped from the project. See our FAQs\, reach out to
your crew leader\, or contact ITA staff at trails@idahotrailsassociation

he snow melts\, but all accessed from the yurt.    \nItinerary: This
is a weekend project. Crews can stay at the yurt starting Friday afternoon
. Trail work all Saturday. Sunday–leave the yurt clean before heading
out for another trail workday. Head home Sunday afternoon.    \nFood Pr

DESCRIPTION:Project Name:  Middle Fork Payette  \nProject Dates:  Sep
tember 19-22  \nStarting at Boiling Springs\, we'll backpack north alon
g the Middle Fork of the Payette River. We will be working on immediate
log out and drainage needs to help address the effects of the 2024 wil
dfires east of Cascade. This trail follows the river for 15 miles\, ending
at Clear Creek Summit and is enjoyed by hikers\, backpackers\, and hot s
prings enthusiasts. Quick action is needed to stabilize the trail and kee
p it open in the areas that burned\, and annual maintenance and log out
is needed in the areas that did not. ITA worked the first 3.75 miles of t
rail last year\, and this crew will re-clear and push forward!   \nFrom
the trailhead it is 3.75 miles into our planned base camp. There are
eight creek crossings on the way\, but all can be safely navigated\,
and we can hike in our creek crossing shoes for much of the way vs taki
ng our boots on and off all day.  There is a lovely open spot among bi
g ponderosas just off the river for us to camp. Listen for elk calls bou
ncing off the canyon walls at night!  From here\, we'll continue to wo
rk north clearing\, fixing tread\, and brushing up as far as we can.
On the last full day\, we'll pack up early to camp at a well-establishe
d hot springs for the last evening together\, before retuning to cars
the next morning.   \nMore info on All Trails   \nProject informatio
n is subject to change. Crew leaders will communicate via email. Failure
to respond to your crew leader may result in being dropped from the projec
 t. See our FAQs\, reach out to your crew leader\, or contact ITA staff at
  trails@idahotrailsassociation.org if you have questions.  \nTrails: M
iddle Fork Payette River Trail #033  \nItinerary: This is a four-day pro
ject. Welcome to camp at the trailhead the night before\, for a morning
 start backpacking/working on Saturday.  Working Saturday – Monday\, a
nd Tuesday back to the trailhead and heading home.    \nFood Provided b
y ITA: No – This project is eligible for backpacking food per diem.

kpacking Projects  \nCrew Leader: Taylor Mailly and Patti Stieger   \n
Estimated Drive Time from Closest Town: 1 hour from Garden Valley  \nTr
ail Map:  Click for trail map and elevation profile   \nRefundable dep
osit: $50   \nWhy do I need to pay a deposit? We've had trouble with
people backing out of trips at the last minute which can really affect
the productivity of the overall project. By charging a refundable fee\, vo
lunteers are less likely to cancel their reservation. Refunds will not be
given to volunteers that do not show up or cancel their reservation. Exce
ptions will be made for medical reasons or unforeseen circumstances. Volun
teers can choose to donate the deposit to ITA. All donations are tax-dedu
ctible and will go towards maintaining trails throughout Idaho. If you
require assistance in paying for this fee\, please contact us at trails
@idahotrailsassociation.org and we will waive the cost.   \nDifficulty
Rating  \nYou should have experience with backpacking and be in good hik
ing condition with broken-in and tested gear. This is a remote backcount
ry project\, so injuries such as sprains and blisters or even extreme fa
tigue from not being properly conditioned can quickly become a big safety
issue.  If you are unsure about the proper gear or about preparing for a
  trip\, please reach out to trails@idahotrailsassociation.org.   \nHik
e: 4/5 Strenuous – Lots of creek crossings bumped this up to a four
vs a three\, but we scheduled later in the season to avoid high water.
Once at camp\, only one creek crossing to get to the project site pa
st here.  No more than four miles round trip is expected for the ma
ximum hike.  The trail follows the river\, dropping gently in elevatio
n\, with some steep but short sections.  Carrying all personal gear and
trail tools. See the linked map for the elevation profile.  \nProject: 3/
5 Moderately Strenuous – Crosscut and log out to clear trail. Tread wor
k as needed to ensure proper drainage.  \nVolunteer Spots Available: 0 of
