This trail follows the river for 15 miles\, ending at Clear Creek Summit and is enjoyed by hikers\, backpackers\, and hot s prings enthusiasts. Quick action is needed to stabilize the trail and kee p it open in the areas that burned\, and annual maintenance and log out is needed in the areas that did not. This pi cturesque area offers stunning views of the dramatic rock formations that make Chimney Rock a rock climber's mecca. \nTo accommodate a wide range of abilities and interests\, we'll split into multiple work groups throughou t the day. Volunteers who prefer a slower pace or a more moderate hike wil l focus on brushing along the lower sections of the trail\, while those wh o are comfortable hiking farther will head higher to help with log removal and tread work. This structure allows us to welcome volunteers of many ex perience and fitness levels. \nThe lower sections of the trail typically r equire significant brushing\, while the upper sections will need log remov al and tread rebuilding. This trail follows the creek through meadows and hot springs and sits below several peaks of the Salmon River M ountains. These trails are used by hunters\, boaters\, horse packers\, and backpackers wanting to explore the Middle Fork of the Salmon and the Fran k Church-River of No Return Wilderness. An ITA crew will be here earlier i n the year to address the first few miles\, and we’ll continue where the y left off and push further into the wilderness! \nWe’ll will fly into t he Indian Creek backcountry airstrip along the Middle Fork. From here pack support is tentatively available to bring us further up trail\, to a base camp about 3.5 miles up the trail near the Middle Fork of Indian Creek. I n years past\, the trail was passable but very brushy\, and the further up trail the more crosscut work is to be done!
