DESCRIPTION:Our September Program will feature Jennifer’s quilting journ
ey and a review of her quilts. \nJennifer shares her inspirations for quil
ting and sewing: \nI made my first quilt when I was a senior in high schoo
 l. Before that\, I had been making my own clothes since 6th grade. I sta
rted out sewing with my mother and seeing how she used patterns when sewin
g clothing. I began designing my own clothes and altering existing patter
ns when I was in 6th grade. My mother would help me sew out my creations.
By 11th grade\, I was making my prom dresses from my own designs and dra
wing my own patterns. I made cheerleading camp uniforms and song leader p
inafores for my cheer teams. We didn’t want to ask one of the moms to m
ake them all and I had ideas for the original designs I wanted. When I wa
s a senior in high school\, I got a job in the fabric department at TG&Y\,
and that is where I found my first quilt pattern. \nBoth of my grandmot
hers were very good seamstresses also and both quilted. My whole life I w
as surrounded by quilts. Even the blanket I took to preschool for naps wa
s a quilt that had been made for my mom when she was a child. I learned a
lot from both of my Grandmothers. They each had fabric around that I was
free to create with. I learned to sew on a treadle machine at one grandm
other’s house\, and learned a lot of hand sewing techniques\, and how to
make draperies from the other grandmother. \nI have an AA in both Fashion
Merchandising and Home Economics from Fullerton College\, which at the ti
me the Fashion Merchandising program was equivalent to the Fashion Institu
te in Los Angeles. The course requirements included designing\, pattern d
rafting\, and draping as well as construction. I have a BS in Home Econom
ics with my emphasis in Fashion Merchandising. I have drafted patterns an
d sewn for a designer\, but never had the financial backing to start my ow
n label but I have always continued to sew for myself and my family. \nW
hen my brother and his wife started having children\, I made each child a
flannel rag quilt\, and I think that is when I caught the bug. I started
making flannel rag quilts for Halloween and Christmas with designs I made
up for my daughter and me. \nI designed and made several figure skating dr
esses for my daughter\, a huge t-shirt like quilt\, but out of my daughter
’s sweatshirts from eleven years of skating competitions. I did not lay
er or quilt it because the sweatshirt fabric was heavy enough. \nNot too l
ong after that\, I started enjoying going to quilt shows and the Quilt\, C
raft\, and Sewing show every year. I would get inspired\, and start purch
asing patterns\, and fabrics. Since I have been retired (almost 8 Years)
quilting keeps me out of trouble. I love having projects to do. I want t
o feel purposeful. My closet is full\, so making clothes for myself isn’
 t necessary\, so I sew quilts. I don’t stick to one style\, I love lear
ning new techniques. My quilts don’t really look like they belong to a
collection\, they are more individual\, and what I wanted to make or learn
at a time or I just thought was cute. I have over 20 project boxes full
of fabric and the patterns for future quilts\, two Judy Neimeyer kits\, tw
o more of her patterns and some fabric to go with them\, at least five pro
jects in process\, and lots more ideas in my head. I keep buying fabric b
ecause I believe I have to live long enough to finish everything. \nBe su
re to see Jennifer’s quilt display at the BBQ Quilt Show on September 25
  and 26\, 2026.

\, or someone who simply appreciates beautiful flowers\, the 4th Annual So
uthwest Idaho Dahlia Show promises to inspire. \nHosted by the Southwest I
daho Dahlia Society\, the free event takes place Saturday\, September 26\,
at Jack’s Urban Meeting image.pngPlace (JUMP) in downtown Boise. Admiss
ion is free\, and everyone is invited to experience one of the region’s
largest displays of spectacular dahlias. \nNow in its fourth year\, the sh
ow continues to grow as more Idaho gardeners discover the remarkable diver
sity of dahlias. From tiny pom pons to dinner-plate blooms measuring nearl
y 10 inches across\, visitors will see hundreds of entries in every imagin
able color\, size and form. \n“We’re seeing more and more serious and
casual gardeners fall in love with dahlias\,” said organizers. “Many o
f these growers are looking for new ideas\, learning from one another\, an
d challenging themselves by exhibiting their best blooms. Whether you’re
growing your first dahlia or your hundredth\, the show is a celebration o
f gardening and community.” \nThe show is open to everyone — flower gr
owers\, flower admirers\, photographers\, families and anyone curious abou
t these extraordinary blooms. Visitors will have the opportunity to view a
ward-winning exhibits\, visit with experienced growers\, gather gardening
tips\, and learn more about growing dahlias successfully in Idaho. \nWe’
re thrilled to welcome back Art Weurth\, Senior Judge and Officer of the F
ederation of Northwest Dahlia Growers\, whose continued support of our sho
w means so much. We’re also delighted that River’s Dahlias will be joi
ning us. Eugene Kenyon\, Senior Judge\, and Rosie Cooper-Vert\, Candidate
Judge\, are looking forward to sharing their expertise during our educatio
nal session. Whether you’re interested in exhibiting dahlias or learning
more about flower farming\, you’ll gain valuable insights from these ta
lented growers. \nOne of the most popular features of the show is Bouquets
for the Idaho Foodbank\, where local growers donate beautiful floral arra
ngements that attendees can purchase while supporting a great cause. \nVis
itors can purchase: \nGarden Vase with Dahlias (Class 267) – Beautiful h
ome-display arrangements featuring seven or more dahlias\, complemented by
other flowers and greenery\, with dahlias taking center stage. These uniq
ue arrangements sell for $30 each. \nDahlia Market Bunches (Class 269) –
Fresh-cut bouquets featuring at least six dahlias\, ready to take home or
give as a gift. Each bouquet sells for $25. \nEvery bouquet purchased hel

wn flowers while giving back to the community. \nEvent Schedule\n10:00 a.m
. – Show Opens to the Public \n2:00 p.m. – Educational Session with ju
 dges \n3:00 p.m. – Awards Presentation \n5:00 p.m. – Show Closes \nThe

DESCRIPTION:Joe Cunningham has been a professional quilt artist since 1979
. He began making quilts in his hometown of Flint\, Michigan\; eventually
moving to San Francisco where he lives with his wife\, Carol LeMaitre\, ab
ove her Pilates studio\, and maintains a gallery/ studio to make and show
his quilts. Joe travels the world to show quilts and teach\, as well as te
aching his popular online classes from his studio. He has written ten quil
tmaking books\, and his quilts are in the permanent collections of several
museums. \nHere’s how Joe describes “Post Modern Quiltmaking\,” the
lecture he’ll be giving at BBQ: \nWe all know what “Modern” quilt m
aking is. Sort of. Now that Modern Quilts have been around for a while the
world is starting to move on\, or maybe it’s just me. In this lecture I
’ll talk about Modern Quilts and how they have influenced the wider quil
t world\, and explain how I have come to find my own style of “Post” M
odern quiltmaking. With lots of examples and time for questions\, this is
a crowd favorite. \nFor more info about Joe and his quilts\, please visit

DESCRIPTION:This class is for someone who has done some FPP\, especially i
f some part of the process is frustrating to you. I really want to invite
anyone that has tried FPP and given up on it. You are missing so much! \nW
e will discuss everything from what constitutes a quality pattern to why t
he size of the pieces is not what defines the difficulty (and what does).
I will give you ideas on how to organize your fabrics and how best to cut
pieces to minimize frustration from too small pieces. We will also look at
what “paper” is best to sew on and you will get to try 3 different ki
nds. \nYou will be making at least 3 blocks designed especially to demonst
rate and practice the ideas discussed. \nOct. 19th is the registration dea
dline for this class\, and is also the last day to receive a refund for ca
 ncellation. \nSupply List \n\nSewing Machine – Set up with a #70 needle
and a Straight Stitch Foot. (I prefer a clear plastic foot)\nThread – Th
e “best” choice is 80 wt Deco Bob. If you are just starting out\, buy
a mini cone in a light shade of your favorite neutral. If you have 100’s
of spools of thread \, like I do\, you can use other fine threads. I woul
d not recommend anything heavier than Aurifil 50 wt.\n“Add a Quarter”
and “Add an Eighth” rulers. For this class you need the 6 inch ones. T
he ones labeled “Plus” are not more useful.\nSmall and large (45mm) ro
tary cutters\, small cutting mat\, small rotary cutting rulers (nothing la
 rger than 6in x 12 in}.\nSmall Scissors or thread snips.\nSmall ironing bo
ard and small iron. The classroom will have irons.\nA rectangle of heavy/c
risp plastic for folding back pattern sections. Mine is 3.5 inches by 7 in
ches for no particular reason. You can also just use the heaviest advertis

DESCRIPTION:Our November Program will feature quilter and designer Kadee P
orter. She will share her technique for hand-piecing. Hand-piecing is a s
low\, satisfying way to create a quilt\, one thoughtful stitch at a time.
It is perfect for projects on the go\, passing time in a hospital waiting
room\, or relaxing at home. \nKadee’s use of template stamps makes th
e preparation process simpler and more accurate. With her design “Lollip
ops\,”\, she was one of two Boise Basin Quilters Guild members honored w
ith an award in the 2025-2026 Amethyst Hoffman Challenge: https://www.theh
offmanchallenge.com/award-recipients \nKadee is a native Idahoan and works
as a civil engineer by day and a quilter by night. Her designs have been
published multiple times in American Patchwork and Quilting magazine. She
has a small\, home-based business for template stamps created with 3D pri
nting technology. \nYou can follow Kadee on Facebook at Kalico Palace Quil
ting: A Return to Handwork or on Instagram @kalicopalacequilting. \nKade
e will be teaching a hand-piecing Schoolhouse class for the guild on Janua

DESCRIPTION:Guild member Kadee Porter has had several quilt designs publis
hed in American Patchwork & Quilting magazine\, and her quilt “Lollipops
” was a first-place winner in the 2025 Hoffman challenge. Kadee\, an ACH

DESCRIPTION:“Fractured Images\,” taught by Dianne Kane. \n9:30-3:30 on
  March 13\, 2027\, at Boise Rigging Supply\, 6750 W. Victory Rd.\, Boise\n
15 tickets should be set to open for sale on January 13th\, 2027. The dead
line to register (and to receive a refund for cancellations) will be March
12th. \nClass Description:\nWant to learn how to create this interesting
effect that makes your fabric appear to vibrate? If you like surprises\,
this is a class for you. We’ll make a wall hanging that will amaze all
of us. Plan on getting most of the top put together during our class time
. Just be forewarned: you won’t be able to stop with just one. \nSupp
 lies: \n· Sewing machine\n· Mat\, new blade and ruler\n
 · Pins\, scissors\, seam ripper\n· Thread \nFabrics: \nY
ou will want a fabric with large strong motifs. Florals\, Asian and Hawai
ian prints are great. Kaffe Fassett fabrics would probably work well too.
The Frond big flowers (22×24) are also really fun. Choose a fabric with
a repeat of at least 18-24″. The more colors in the background\, the m
ore interesting your piece will be. Movement in the background is good to
o–marbles\, swirls\, or shadows. Avoid fabrics with people or straight
vertical or horizontal elements. Batiks are not appropriate either becaus
e they are hand printed and the repeats are not always evenly spaced. \nP
urchase at least 4 repeats of the fabric–5 to be safe. (Did you hear th
e “voice of experience”?) We will use only one long side of the fabri
c\, so you’ll have half of your fabric left to share with a friend or us
e in a border or on the back of your wall hanging. Bring coordinating bor
der fabrics too if you’d like so we can audition your choices. If you h

DESCRIPTION:English Paper Piecing or Foundation Paper Piecing? What’s th
e difference? What are the pros and cons of each technique? Which techniqu
e is your favorite? \nWe will try to answer these questions as Tina shares
dozens of quilts. One quilt from each technique will battle head-to-head
and you will vote for your favorites in each round. At the end\, we will t
ally up the votes and declare a winner! \nTina Craig enrolled in a beginne
r sampler quilt class at a Connecticut quilt shop in 1990 and was instantl
y hooked. Before that first Christmas wall hanging was completed\, she alr
eady had several other projects started! She encourages her students to tr
y new techniques\, as those new skills can open up a world of possibilitie
 s. Her favorite classes to teach are English Paper Piecing and Domestic Ma
chine Quilting. Tina was featured in Quiltfolk magazine issue 25\, Rhode I
sland. Watch her demos on TheQuiltShow.com episode 3705 and listen to her
conversation with Brandy Maslowski on the Quilter on Fire podcast episode
 259. When not in her sewing room\, she and her husband enjoy bird watching
and traveling to visit their children and grandsons. Tina’s website is

DESCRIPTION:Quiltmaker\, pattern designer\, and barn quilt painter Roberta
Parsons grew up on a multi-generational rural egg-ranch with three older
 brothers\, a rugmaking/quilt teacher mother and a model airplane builder/p
ilot father. Their unspoken family philosophy was that creativity was a gi
ven! Roberta retired from the corporate world in 2019 after a long career
in the retail catalog production\, magazine and printing industry. She now
happily resides in Payette\, Idaho. \nRoberta says\, “This workshop is
intended for all the people who see quilts or blocks with curves and decid
e they can’t do it because for whatever reason\, someone once told them
that curves are HARD unless they plan to learn applique. Curves are not ha
rd! They’re bias\, so they can get stretched out of whack and not behave
if you don’t handle them tenderly. But they’re NOT HARD. \nOnce peopl
e are comfortable with improv curves and understand the geometry of how cu
rves work\, they can move on to the more rigid\, template-based\, seam- al
lowance-added curves without the fear of a block that ends up lumpy and mi
sshapen. \nProbably one of the most BASIC things that I’ll demonstrate a
nd teach in this workshop is how I don’t pin\, glue\, clip or add seam a
llowance (for improv) to my curves. I’ll teach you how to recognize when
you do need to make adjustments for seam allowance or use templates and W
HY. From that initial demonstration sequence\, we will move into exercises
that you can complete at your own pace.” \nThe photos show a quilt made
by Roberta (“Improv with Curves”)\, and a small table-topper made by
a participant during a 2-hour workshop that Roberta taught for the Treasur
e Valley Quiltmakers. \nMore Information to Follow!
