 hly class is all about Vocal Discovery. We begin with gentle physical and 
 vocal warm ups and then explore various forms of collaborative singing\, f
 rom close harmony singing\, improvisational singing and specific singing s
 tyles\, whilst building community and offering the singing balm we all des
 ire. At the end of each class participants will be guided through a short 
 centering meditation to ground their experience.  No previous singing expe
 rience needed\, ALL levels\, ages\, genders are welcome to join. Early Bir
 d is $20 through 5/20 and regular tickets are $30. Please wear loose comfo
 rtable clothing you can move in\, bring a journal or notepad to write or d
 raw in and water to drink. Please stay home if you have a cough or any sym
 ptoms of illness\, we want to make this a safe space for everyone. Thank y
 ou!Julia Norton has always been driven by a deep understanding that the si
 nging voice is not just about sounding ‘pretty’\, it’s about communi
 cating deep emotions and connecting with others\, whilst also connecting t
 o the core of who we truly are.  Combining solid vocal technique\, gentle 
 movement\, active imagination\, shadow work and play\, Julia’s mission i
 s to help people uncover the power\, authenticity\, and joy in their voice
 . To transform the stories that might be holding them back\, and to build 
 community through collaborative singing and play. She has been singing and
  studying voice her whole life\, but completed an MA in Voice Movement The
 rapy in 2000 and has been a registered Voice Movement Therapy practitioner
  for over 25 years.  She is also an award winning singer\, voice actor and
  a certified Jungian Coach.

 sThis meditation and study group is based in the Insight Meditation tradit
 ion and its sources in Thai Forest and Burmese Theravāda Buddhism. To th
 is foundation\, we add exploration of Mahāyāna Dharmas particularly fr
 om the Perfection of Wisdom (Prajñāpāramitā) literature and lineag
 e. The group meets weekly online\, and on fourth Tuesdays live at the Alem
 bic.The focus of the group is on deepening in Buddhist liberation practice
 \, and exploring the links between individual & systemic liberation in the
  form of social justice and collective healing. I bring a particular focus
  on working with the nervous system and resolving the symptoms of trauma\,
  supported by devotional practice\, study\, and ethics as the basis of the
  path.All are welcome. Cost is $5\, plus Dāna (pay what you can).Sean Oa
 kes\, PhD (he/him\, queer\, of Spanish/Puerto Rican and Northern European 
 ancestry living on unceded Pomo land in California)\, teaches Buddhism\, Y
 oga\, and somatic practice. He has studied in Theravāda\, Zen\, and Vajr
 āyāna Buddhist lineages since 1993\, including training as a monk in B
 urma\, and was authorized to teach Insight Meditation by Jack Kornfield in
  2010. His primary Buddhist teachers include Kornfield\, Sylvia Boorstein\
 , Gil Fronsdal\, Eugene Cash\, Kittisaro\, Ṭhānissara\, Ṭhānissaro
  Bhikkhu\, Anam Thubten\, and Chammyay Sayadaw (U Janaka)\, with whom he o
 rdained as a bhikkhu for a Rains Retreat in Burma in 2002.He studied Haṭ
 ha and Vinyāsa Yogas with Alice Joanou\, Rachel Shaw\, Amanda Moran\, an
 d David Moreno\, and taught mindfulness-based āsana and prāṇāyām
 a for 10 years. He performed for many years in music\, dance\, and perform
 ance art\, including with Keith Hennessy’s Circo Zero\, and was certifie
 d in Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Organic Intelligence (OI) with Steven H
 oskinson\, integrating the complex systems approach from OI in a distincti
 vely Buddhist approach to trauma resolution. He received his PhD in Perfor
 mance Studies from UC Davis in 2016\, writing on extraordinary states of c
 onsciousness in Buddhist meditation and experimental dance. He teaches at 
 Spirit Rock Meditation Center\, East Bay Meditation Center\, Insight Timer
 \, and elsewhere\, focusing on the integration of philosophy\, somatics\,
