DESCRIPTION:What is COSELL?\n\nIn the mid 2000s\, three workplace law prof
 essors Joe Slater\, Scott Moss\, and Paul Secunda developed the idea of ha
 ving an informal meeting to workshop ideas for research in the areas of em
 ployment and labor law. They ended up naming their initiative the Colloqui
 um on Scholarship in Employment and Labor Law\, COSELL.\n​\nSince 2006\,
  COSELL has brought together dozens of scholars each year to present\, hea
 r\, and provide feedback on research and scholarship in labor law\, employ
 ment law\, and related areas\, such as litigation or ADR. COSELL embraces 
 a range of methodologies and theoretical approaches including critical leg
 al studies and empirical approaches (among others). The conference has bee
 n held in law schools across the country\, from UCLA to Northwestern to Se
 ton Hall Law. \nCOSELL aims to be open to all: there is no charge to atten
 d\; it rotates among schools that volunteer to host and sponsor\; and pres
 entations can be made by not only professors\, but also practitioners and 
 aspiring professors and scholars. \nCOSELL is where the recipients are ann
 ounced for two awards: the Paul Steven Miller Award to a senior scholar wh
 o has shown outstanding academic and public contributions to the field of 
 labor and employment scholarship\, and the Michael J. Zimmer Award to a ri
 sing scholar who values workplace justice and community\, and who has made
  significant contributions to the field of labor and employment law schola
 rship. \nCOSELL is an informal organization supported by the COSELL Legacy
  Committee. The current committee consists of Rachel Arnow-Richman (Florid
 a)\, Doron Dorfman (Seton Hall)\, Catherine Fisk (UC Berkeley)\, Ann Julia
 no (Villanova)\, and Nicole Porter (William and Mary). \n\n\nCOSELL 2026 w

DESCRIPTION:This is a two-Saturday class\, 9/19 and 9/26\, 10 AM to 5 PM \
 nDo you look at images of Victorian ladies and wish you could dress just l
 ike them? Now you can! Come make a late-Victorian bodice from 1830-1899. Y
 ou can wear it to Victorian balls\, teas\, SASS events\, or any occasion y
 ou desire. You can even use it as a base for a modern or fantasy gown! \nW
 e’ll start with a Truly Victorian bodice pattern of your choosing\, and 
 augment it with authentic 19th century dressmaking techniques to make a cu
 stom gown just for you. We’ll cover measurements\, pattern adjustments\,
  fitting\, period sewing techniques\, trimming\, boning\, hand finishing\,
  and much more. \nIn the first session\, you will cover a brief overview o
 f the styles worn in the era. You will take measurements\, trace off the c
 orrect pattern pieces\, and then make and fit mock-ups. \nIn the second se
 ssion\, you will then move on to cutting and constructing your bodice and 
 adding boning. We’ll finish out by concentrating on closures and facings
 . \nPrerequisites: Students must have made at least one dress or blouse fr

 me yardage as bodice.\nMuslin (or old sheets\, etc) for a mockup: 2 yards 
 or more\nPreparation: Please prepare all fabrics by washing or steaming\, 
 if necessary.  However\, do not wash your muslin.  Press all fabrics.  
 Tape together print-at-home patterns if needed.  Read pattern instruction
 s. \n\n  \nWHAT TO WEAR: \nPlease bring the underpinnings that you plan 
 on wearing with bodice. Historically accurate undergarments are a well-fit
 ted corset\, chemise\, petticoats\, and hoop\, bum pad\, or bustle\, if yo
 u will be wearing one is highly recommended.  Petticoats\, hoops\, and bu
 stle/pad affect the fit of your bodice\, so please bring them if you will 
 be wearing them.  It is perfectly fine not to wear historical undergarmen
 ts\, but you must have all the undergarments you plan to wear at the first
  class and every class thereafter. Switching the undergarments will undo a
 ll your careful fitting work.  \nWearing modern undergarments instead is 
 absolutely fine\; just be aware that a skirt made to wear with a corset wi
 ll not fit properly\, or at all\, without one\, and vice versa. So please 
 make a decision and commit to it. Showing up at the second class session w
 ith a beautiful new corset will undo most of your previous fitting work. 
   \n  \nMATERIALS: (Some of which are available from Lacis) \n\nBone cas
 ing: 6 yards.  You can use seam binding\, Prussian tape\, ribbon\, bias t
 ape\, lining fabric\, etc.\nBoning: five yards artificial whalebone\, or y
 ou can purchase metal boning at Lacis during class\nThread to match all fa
 brics\nClosures as listed in pattern: buttons\, hooks/eyes\, hook and eye 
 tape\, or eyelets for lacing\n2  yards ¾” – 1” petersham ribbon\nL
 arge hook and eye to fit petersham (or two dress size hooks and eyes)\nAny
  desired trimming\nOptional: 12 yards seam binding for Hong-Kong style sea
 m finish\n\nTOOLS REQUIRED: \n\nSewing machine\, with power cord and foot 
 pedal\, plus bobbins and extra needles. Optional piping\, zipper\, shirrin
 g and gathering attachments if needed.\nRuler (clear if possible)\nFabric 
 marking device /carbon paper and tracing wheel\nDressmaking pins\nPencil/p
 en\nMeasuring tape\nScissors: fabric\, paper\, thread snips\, and craft sc

 tatted works of art. Beginning Tatting Part II focuses on refining your sh
 uttle tatting technique while introducing new elements that expand your de
 sign possibilities. \nYou’ll learn how to create tatted chains and combi
 ne them with rings to form a classic medallion of joined rings and chains.
  We’ll explore how to read a variety of tatting instructions\, introduce
  new threads\, and properly finish your pieces. You’ll also learn techni
 ques for blocking and stiffening your completed work\, giving your tatting
  a polished\, professional finish.
