In 2025\, W hatcom Land Trust permanently conserved this land\, opening the door for p artners to carry out long-term restoration work. Since then\, partners lik e NSEA\, Whatcom Conservation District\, and Whatcom County have worked to gether to enhance this critical habitat. That same year\, a culvert blocki ng salmon passage was removed\, and a new bridge was constructed to make w ay for a wider\, natural channel. Now\, salmon can travel up the restored creek\, with plenty of large woody debris in place to create natural strea m habitat as they return to spawn. Since the n\, the Land Trust has expanded the reserve by adding a 51-acre parcel in 2024\, which completes protection of the Lake Terrell shoreline through it s connection with Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife lands. Today\ , this protected land provides habitat for beaver\, songbirds\, coho\, and many other native wildlife species. While important stewardship work has already taken place\, there are still many opportunities for restoration.
