DESCRIPTION:Numerous studies have shown that all types of drumming can red
uce stress\, lower blood pressure\, and enhance your immunity. Better yet\
, drumming makes you happy! Drumming releases endorphins in the brain\, wh
ich are associated with general feelings of well-being and euphoria.   \
nVictory Drumming will enhance the beat of the heart – the triumph of li
ving each day with purpose – and the success of filling each day with en
 couraging upbeat rhythm!    \nFirst 3 Fridays of each month.\n \n2026 S

enjoy drumming? The drum is like my heart beat\, like my breath\, like th
e wind and thunder and rain. I feel a connection to myself and to others.
Magic happens. I smile as I enjoy the rhythms\, the challenge of learning\

DESCRIPTION:Walking on Eggshells\nLet’s just say it: things are stressfu
l right now. That’s exactly why I chose this as the first class of the f
all season.\nThis process — painting papers\, tearing them\, cutting the
m\, shaping them into something new — has always helped me let go. To s
ay how I feel without commentary or conflict from anyone else. There’s n
o one to disagree with paper and paint.\nWe paint. We play. We draw. We te
ar. And then\, if by some kind of magic\, we watch it all come together in
to a composition we never expected.\nMuch like life.\nIn this 3-hour sessi
on\, you’ll start by painting your own background papers — no plan req
uired\, just color and mood. Then we tear\, layer\, and collage them into
a striking abstract piece on canvas. No drawing skills\, no design backgro
und\, no “right” outcome — just whatever wants to come through.\n\nW
ant structure?\nI’ll give you 8 beginner-friendly layout guides (like th
e Horizon Line or the Textural Grid)\, so you’re never starting from a b
lank page. Want to ignore all of that and follow your gut instead? Also
great. Either way\, you leave with a piece that’s really yours.\nWhat’
 s Included: Everything. Canvas board\, custom paints\, magazines\, tissue
papers\, real cracked eggshells for texture\, and a stash of unexpected m
aterials from my own studio — no supply list\, nothing to bring but your
self.\n\nHow the Class Works\n\n Paint — We start by making our own cu
stom background and texture papers\, working with color and brushstrokes t
o get our mood onto the page. No planning required.\n Collage — Once y
our papers are dry\, we layer them with magazine snippets\, tissue\, crack
ed eggshells\, and a few surprise textural elements into a modern abstract
  composition.\n Seal — You’ll learn a simple\, archival-safe gluing
and sealing technique so your finished piece is preserved on canvas for ye
 ars to come.\n\nThis is a relaxed\, judgment-free room — quiet enough to
actually think\, supportive enough that nobody’s watching what you make
 .\nArt medium: Mosaic\nInstructor: Harmony Thiessen\n\nCost: $45\n\nClass
Size: 16\n\nRegistration: Register here Messy and Mindful Paint Collage to

DESCRIPTION:Skagit Whatcom Adventure Group\nSWAG is partnering with Pacifi
c Northwest Trail Association (PNTA) for another trail maintenance event\,
finishing some stone wall and tread rebuilding on the Chuckanut - Oyster
Dome trail we started last month (see picture).\n\nWe'll be starting from
the Samish Overlook parking lot and hiking about 1.5 miles to a spot where
the trail has been undermined. On our last maintenance day\, we filled in
where the trail had been undermined\, now we will finish building the sup
port rock wall and adding to the tread. This should take a several hours\,
or less if lots of people sign up (hint\, hint!) If there's time we'll wo
rk on a nearby undermined piece of trail. When finished\, we'll head back
to the parking lot for treats.\n\nNo experience is necessary and PNTA will
provide all tools and safety equipment\, you just have to show up and hav
 e fun. For this event\, we'll be using larger tools (Pulaskis\, MacLeods\,
shovels\, etc.)\, digging up and moving large and small rocks\, and movin
 g dirt. Don't let this scare you\, there's a job for everyone\, no matter
your strength or experience.\n\nTo sign up\, you **must** go to the PNTA w
ebsite and fill out their form (link coming very soon). When you've done t
hat\, come back here and sign up with SWAG.\n\n**NOTES:**\n\n* WA State **
Discovery pass is required**.\n* There are bathrooms available at the trai
lhead.\n* Sorry\, dogs are not welcome since we'll be working on the trail
.\n\nHousekeeping:\n\n* We will cancel for high winds or heavy monsoon rai
ns but we will hike otherwise.\n* You must sign-up and be on the “Going
” list to participate.\n* If you sign-up for this event\, out of respect
for the group and those on the wait list please make every effort to atte
nd.\n* Please practice leave-no-trace.\n\nDisclaimer: We are not professio
nal hiking guides or medical professionals. We are volunteers. You alone a

 says\, and even poems covering knowledge\, art\, morality\, and everyday h
uman psychology.\n\nIt's the book where Nietzsche famously first declares
that "God is dead" — not as a celebration but as a meditation on how Eur
opean culture has quietly lost the religious framework that once gave life
meaning\, and what might replace it.\n\nIt also introduces two of his mos
t compelling ideas: the "eternal recurrence" (would you be able to affirm
living your exact life over and over\, infinitely?) and amor fati\, the lo
ve of one's fate. Widely regarded as his most accessible and personal work
\, it should make for a rich discussion. Looking forward to digging into i

DESCRIPTION:For more than a decade\, Mama’s Broke\, the Canadian duo of
Amy Lou Keeler and Lisa Maria\, have forged a style carried across landsc
apes rather than tied to one. Their forthcoming 12-song LP Reunion\, out
August 28 via Free Dirt Records and Forward Music Group\, follows years in
near-constant motion\, bringing their folk-without-borders approach to sm
all clubs\, DIY spaces\, and everywhere in between. Winners of the Canadia
n Folk Music Award for Ensemble of the Year for their 2017 debut Count th
e Wicked\, their music is rooted in long days playing for passing crowds a
nd traveling by foot\, as well as in the deep wells of folk lineage they
’ve tapped into across Eastern Canada\, Appalachia\, Ireland\, and beyon
 d. Their sound doesn’t belong to any one place so much as it passes thro
ugh them\, grounded in the traditions that shaped it. \n  \nThat foundati
on was built long before stages and studio sessions\, in traveling communi
ties where music functioned as both currency and connection. The two met w
ithin a global network of musicians funding their way through shared songs
\, carrying only what they could as they traded melodies and stories acros
s the miles. Playing for hours at a time on the street demanded a repertoi
re that could hold attention and sustain emotion\, drawing them deep into
traditional material and the discipline of close harmony. Over time\, the
songs became a common language\, connecting what came before with the musi
c they were making together. \nBuilding on their JUNO-nominated album Nar
row Line (2022)\, Reunion reflects a world coming apart in plain sight\
, tracing fractured communities\, the erosion of shared ground\, and the g
rowing awareness that the systems we were taught to trust no longer hold o
r deliver the promises they were meant to keep. The songs don’t preach o
r prescribe\; they reflect\, holding up a mirror and leaving space for som
ething else to take shape. \nRecorded just outside Nashville in Goodlettsv
ille\, Tennessee\, Reunion features subtle contributions from bassist Pa
ul Kowert (Gillian Welch & David Rawlings) and others\, adding depth witho
ut pulling focus from the record’s acoustic core. At its heart\, Mama’
s Broke remains what it has always been: two voices\, intertwined\, both f
ragile and enduring. Reunion asks what it means to make something that l
asts: not a place you’re from\, or even a place you return to\, but what
you make together\, and how long it lasts\, if you tend to it. \nMama’s
Broke are touring their new album in North America and Europe throughout
 2026 and 2027. \nTickets: https://tadpoleproductions.thundertix.com/events
