DESCRIPTION:on view September 17\, 2026–January 3\, 2027 at the LSU Muse
um of Art\n\n \n\nThe LSU Museum of Art is pleased to host The South’s M
ost Elusive Artist: Walter Inglis Anderson\, an exhibition of over 40 work
s by American artist\, Walter Inglis Anderson. The exhibition is organized
by the Walter Anderson Museum of Art (WAMA) in Ocean Springs\, MS\, and d
raws from WAMA’s Permanent Collection and that of the Estate of Walter A
nderson. The exhibition includes rarely seen watercolors\, block prints\,
ceramics\, and sketches alongside some of Anderson’s most recognizable a
nd iconic works. This exhibition will be on view at the LSU Museum of Art
 from September 17\, 2026–January 3\, 2027.\n\n \n\nBorn in 1903 on Broad
way Street in New Orleans\, Louisiana\, Anderson came of age during a peri
od of rapid modernization across the American South. As industrialization
reshaped the mainland\, he increasingly sought refuge in the solitude of t
he natural world\, particularly the barrier islands beyond the Mississippi
Sound. His subject matter ranges widely—from the Indigenous inhabitants
of the Gulf Coast to the endangered birds and animals that once freely ro
amed its shorelines. He is perhaps best known for his intimate watercolors
of Horn Island\, a remote barrier island twelve miles off the coast of Oc
ean Springs\, Mississippi. Rowing alone in a small skiff\, Anderson spent
days observing and recording the island’s flora and fauna\, often workin
g on simple 8.5 x 11-inch sheets of typing paper. These modest materials b
elie the power of the resulting images\, which capture both the majesty an
d the fierce unpredictability of the natural world.\n\n \n\nAnderson’s a
rtworks and writings serve as meditations on perception and presence. “T
he realization of form and space is through feeling\,” he wrote. “When
I feel the beauty of a flower on the trunk of a tree\, I am at once induc
ted into a world of three dimensions and have a sense of form which is opp
osite of artificial forms and conventions.” His reflections illuminate t
he philosophical core of the artist’s practice: a belief that careful at
tention to nature offers transcendence and renewal.\n\n \n\nAnderson lived
a life marked by privacy and periods of self-imposed isolation. Yet he le
ft behind an almost complete artistic record\, from childhood drawings to
works created in the final days of his life\, many preserved in his coasta
l cottage in Ocean Springs. Through these drawings\, paintings\, and ceram
ic works\, viewers encounter not only the landscapes and creatures of the
Gulf Coast\, but also the inner life of an artist who struggled against hu
man frailty and found profound meaning in the rhythms of the natural world
. The South’s Most Elusive Artist: Walter Inglis Anderson offers a rare
opportunity to engage with a body of work that continues to astonish and d
elight\, reconnecting us to the beauty\, complexity\, and fragile wonder o
 f the environment that surrounds us.\n\n \n\nAdmission\n\nAdults\, 13 and

DESCRIPTION:Come explore the exhibition at Hill Memorial Library!\n\nLong
before the internet\, the printed "web" virtually connected Americans livi
ng across a broad and varied landscape. The printed word touched all aspec
ts of the lives of early Americans\, both literate and illiterate. Publica
tions took the form of religious tracts\, political pamphlets\, newspapers
\, banknotes\, bills of lading\, and broadsides announcing ship arrivals\,
theater productions\, and capture notices for enslaved people. In commemo
ration of the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding\, LSU Libraries S
pecial Collections presents the exhibition\, "Made in America: Selected Im
prints from 1776-1826\," on display in Hill Memorial Library beginning on
September 8\, 2026\, running through the fall semester.\n\nThe story of pr
int culture in America parallels the story of the nation itself. Printed w
orks united a far-flung citizenry\, forging a national identity. Ironicall
y\, the rapid spread of the printed word also amplified sectional differen
ces\, most notably regarding views on slavery. Holdings in the Rare Book C
ollection include important works from this period\, reflecting domestic l
iterature and political theory that were the cornerstones of early nation-
building efforts\, as well as the economic\, technological\, and transport
ation-related developments that influenced the expansion of printing.\n \n
\nAmong the many items on display\, the visitor will find works printed by
famed printer/publishers Mathew Carey and Isaiah Thomas\, early American
novels Arthur Mervyn (Charles Brockden Brown\, 1799) and Charlotte Temple
(Susanna Rowson\, 1794)\, and Louisiana-focused books by surveyor Andrew E
llicott and Henry Brackenridge. Works represent a variety of topics such a
 s literature\, politics\, geography\, religion\, economics\, natural histo
 ry\, travel\, ethnography\, and language.\n \n\nThe exhibition is free and
open to the public. Visit lib.lsu.edu/special for hours and directions.

DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the exhibition opening on Sunday\, May 3rd\
, from 2:00 pm -4:00 pm in the Human Ecology Building. There will be comme
ntary from the museum curator Dr. Michael Mamp\, as well as refreshments!
\n\n \n\nRegular museum hours will resume on Monday May 4th\, 2026 and run
  through January 15th\, 2027.\n\n \n\nStitches in Time: Quilts & Fashion e
xplores the enduring dialogue between quilt making and dress. Nineteenth a
nd twentieth-century quilts are juxtaposed with quilted fashions to highli
ght connections in technique\, color\, and historical moment. At the heart
of the exhibition is a remarkable recent gift from Sylvia R. Karasu\, MD\
, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine\, a collectio
n of garments by legendary American designer and Louisianian\, Geoffrey Be
ene. These pieces represent Beene's enduring attention to craftsmanship\,
fabrication\, and quilting as a means of elevating design and detail in hi

DESCRIPTION:Dario Robleto: Love\, Before There Was Love \n\nGlassell Galle
 ry\; September 5–October 11\, 2026 \n\nReception: Thursday\, October 8\,
  6–8 p.m. \n\n \n\nOn view at Glassell Gallery\, Dario Robleto’s work
merges poetic and scientific\, material and immaterial\, heart and mind. H
is prints of heart pulse waves ask us to engage with intimate\, yet anonym
 ous traces of sensation\, memory\, grief\, life\, and death. \n\nInspired
by the universal resonance of the pulse wave\, Robleto researched and gath
ered fifty pulse waves from various libraries and archives to document lif
e from birth to death. The portfolio ‘The First Time\, the Heart (A Port
rait of Life 1854–1913)’ compiles the first successful scientific visu
alizations of the fundamental rhythm of life through heart pulse waves\; e
ach example was likely the first time a heart was recorded undergoing that
experience. \n\nFor Robleto\, the different lives and experiences repres
ented in each wave evoke\, a familiar\, if not universal\, experience that
invites empathy. By witnessing and deeply reflecting on the experience re
presented in each wave\, viewers can enact reciprocity for these traces gi
fted to us in the form of heart pulse waves. \n\nAbout the Artist \n\nDari
o Robleto was born in San Antonio\, Texas\, in 1972. He received his BFA f
rom the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1997. He lives and works in
Houston\, Texas. \n\nRobleto’s work has been widely exhibited and is hel
d in prominent collections\, including the Menil Collection\, the Whitney
Museum of American Art\, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington\, D
.C. Since 1997\, he has had numerous solo exhibitions\, most recently at t
he Santa Barbara Museum of Art (2024)\, the Amon Carter Museum of American
Art (2024)\, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard Univer
sity (2019)\, Menil Collection (2014)\, the Baltimore Museum of Art (2014)
\, the New Orleans Museum of Art (2012)\, and the Museum of Contemporary A
 rt\, Denver (2011). In 2008\, a ten-year survey exhibition\, Alloy of Love
\, was organized by the Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery
at Skidmore College\, Saratoga Springs\, New York. In 2023\, a second ten
-year survey show\, The Heart’s Knowledge: Science and Empathy in the Ar
t of Dario Robleto\, was organized by the Block Museum of Art at Northwest
ern University. A major monograph accompanied each exhibition. More at htt
