DESCRIPTION:Phèdre Featuring Liz Kiger \nTuesday\, September 15\, 5:30 p.
m.\n\nJoin us for a screening and discussion with film maker\, musician\,
and Goucher Alum Liz Kiger. Admission is free\, but tickets are required.\
n\nAbout the film\n\nBrooklyn Telemann Chamber Society is proud to premier
 e Phèdre\, a cinematic interpretation of Rameau's first opera Hippolyte e
 t Aricie\, released in August\, 2026. Filmed on beaches\, castles\, & Vict
orian abodes\, we tell the tragic Greek myth of Phèdre\, wife of Thésée
\, cursed to love her stepson\, Hippolyte\, who has already fallen for a p
riestess of Goddess Diana. This production uses the magic of cinema to wea
ve together the story using vignettes rather than a through-line plot\, st
aying true to the dramatic progression of the original score\, while incor
porating musical numbers from Rameau’s various revisions. The dramatic c
olor shifts allow the viewer to question whose lens they are seeing the na
rrative unfold through\, humanizing villains and gods. Sung in French with
  English subtitles.\n\nAbout the producer\n\nLiz Kiger is a Turkish-Americ
an non-binary soprano vocalist\, violinist\, and opera director specializi
ng in Baroque performance practice. They are the founder and director of t
he Brooklyn Telemann Chamber Society\, one of the first primarily digital
opera companies\, focused on providing LGBTQIA emerging artists with oppor
tunities reinterpreting Baroque operas as feature films\, thereby bringing
opera to new audiences through inclusion and accessibility. Their work wi
th BTCS has been featured on numerous podcasts and most notably via @360of
opera and OperaWire.com.\n\nThey are currently Director in Residence for N
J’s Opera Atlantic where they directed a fully staged scenes production
for Fall 2025’s Tales for a Starry Night. In 2023-2024 they were in-prod
uction/post-production for the feature-length film Phèdre: Rameau’s Hip
polyte et Aricie. They guest lectured at Yale University\, Eastern Mennoni
te University\, James Madison University\, and Columbia on early music top
ics. Their vocals were featured in the Kravis Nightcap Series\, a NY Philh
armonic event\, with Chromic Duo.\n\nTheir cinematic version of Gluck’s
Orfeo\, released 2021\, won Best Female Director and Best Narrative Featur
e at the Anatolian Film Awards in Istanbul\, Turkey.\n\nLiz holds their M.
 M. in Classical Vocal Performance and a post graduate degree in Vocal Peda
gogy from NYU. They received a B.A. in Music History and Vocal Performance
  from Goucher College.

DESCRIPTION:Generative AI has been in the book business long enough that t
he question is no longer whether writers and publishing professionals need
to pay attention\, but how to make sound decisions when the law\, the tec
hnology\, and industry norms are shifting month to month. In this session\
, publishing industry expert Jane Friedman offers a briefing on the curren
t landscape\, drawn from her ongoing reporting for her newsletter The Bott
om Line. She'll cover the legal picture (such as the $1.5 billion Anthropi
c settlement\, now approved and moving toward payouts)\; the new suits aga
inst Google and Meta brought by publishers\; and what the US Copyright Off
ice actually says about copyrighting AI-assisted work. She looks at what p
ublishers and agents are doing\, from AI detection systems and manuscript
summarization to AI narration\, translation\, and the animation and short-
form video deals at HarperCollins. She'll also comment on industry flashpo
ints\, including new research arguing that AI-assisted titles are diluting
the market. Whatever your position on AI\, you'll leave with a practical
sense of what's happening in the current market and what questions remain
unanswered (spoiler alert: mostly all of them).\n\nJane Friedman has spent
her entire career working in the publishing industry\, with a focus on bu
siness reporting and author education. Established in 2015\, her newslette
r The Bottom Line provides nuanced market intelligence to thousands of aut
hors and industry professionals\; her book\, The Business of Being a Write

DESCRIPTION:Curious how data can shape smarter\, more equitable policy? Jo
in us for an info session on the M.A. in Policy Analytics\, a program buil
t for future change-makers\, whether you come from a background in economi
 cs\, public health\, political science\, sociology\, or something entirely
different. You'll learn how the program blends analytical skills with rea
l-world policy training\, hear what faculty and students have to say\, and
get a clear picture of career paths in government\, nonprofits\, research
\, and beyond. No advanced data experience required\, just curiosity and a
drive to make a difference.\n\nDr. Stefanie Kasparek is the program direc
tor for the Master of Arts in Policy Analytics and an Assistant Professor
of Data Science. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Temple U
niversity\, Philadelphia. Specializing in the behavior and impact of inter
national organizations and state actors\, her scholarship applies quantita
tive tools to investigate patterns in global cooperation\, conflict resolu
tion\, international development\, and policy diffusion. Working in a data
science position lets her bridge perspectives on global affairs with adva
nced analytical methods. She is a recipient of the Box-Steffensmeier Schol
arship for Women in Quantitative Research and was selected to participate
in the Empirical Implications of Theoretical Models (EITM) summer institut

debates and policy discussions\, contributing to evidence-based solutions
in global governance. Dr. Kasparek holds the E-nnovation Endowed Professor
ship in Data Science at Goucher College.

Data Science and holds the E-nnovation Endowed Professorship in Data Scie
