DESCRIPTION:The role of money in elections raises difficult questions abou
 t influence\, access\, fairness\, free expression\, and public trust. With
campaign spending continuing to shape how candidates communicate and comp
ete\, finding solutions that are both effective and broadly acceptable rem
ains a significant challenge. \n\n\n\nJoin Matt Howerton for a discussion
of a proposed approach to addressing money in elections—examined through
the principles of Rotary’s Four-Way Test. \n\n\n\nThe presentation will
consider whether a potential reform is truthful\, fair to all concerned\,
capable of building goodwill\, and beneficial to the broader public. Matt
will explore the competing values involved in campaign finance and offer
a framework for evaluating reform without relying solely on partisan persp
ectives. \n\n\n\nThis timely program invites members to consider how Rotar
y’s ethical principles can help inform one of the most complex issues fa
cing American democracy. \n\n\n\nGuests are welcome to attend. \n\n\n\n\n\

DESCRIPTION:As temperatures rise and communities rely more heavily on air
conditioning\, climate change is forcing architects\, developers\, and bui
lding owners to reconsider what sustainable and resilient design should lo
ok like. \n\n\n\nJoin Peter Pfeiffer for a timely discussion about the nee
d to move beyond technology-driven “green” building solutions and retu
rn to architecture that responds directly to its climate. While efficient
materials and mechanical systems remain important\, Peter will examine why
they cannot compensate for buildings that are poorly oriented\, inadequat
ely shaded\, or otherwise disconnected from their environment. \n\n\n\nThe
presentation will explore how climate change is redefining resilience\, w
hy some widely accepted green-building standards may provide cover for ine
ffective design\, and what must change if the built environment is to mean
ingfully reduce its carbon footprint. \n\n\n\nPeter will also consider the
broader shifts required—from professional practices and public expectat
ions to knowledge\, behavior\, and aesthetic preferences—to create build
ings that are more comfortable\, durable\, and genuinely responsive to the
realities of the 21st century. \n\n\n\nGuests are welcome to attend. \n\n
