DESCRIPTION:A sentimental father-daughter dramedy rooted in Holocaust memo
ry follows an observant Israeli son who travels to Budapest to reclaim a f
abled wartime ring tied to his mother’s survival. Arnon\, a driving inst
ructor who’s gone adrift\, persuades his estranged daughter Alma\, whose
coming out he never fully accepted\, to join the search for the ring that
had saved their family. As they contend with bureaucratic hurdles\, antis
emitism\, unexpected generosity\, and memories from ailing matriarch Viole
tta\, the first steps toward reconnection emerge. Drawn from his family hi
story and written and co-directed by lead actor\, Adir Miller\, this gentl
y affecting journey blends humor and quiet heartache as a father’s quest
becomes a chance to reweave a family story frayed by hurt and time.\n\n\n
\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWHY WE LIKE THIS FILM: One of the most engaging Holocaust-r
elated films which has won awards at many festivals. Great character devel
opment\, plot twists\, terror\, and humor. Inspired by true stories with t
he real life heroine present at the end.\n\n\nBONUS PROGRAMMING: Includes
AJFF interview with director Doron Paz.

DESCRIPTION:The Reel Science series features an in-person presentation and
  a science-themed documentary from Sandbox Films\, the Oscar-nominated pro
duction studio that illuminates the art and beauty of scientific inquiry:
 humankind’s weird\, messy\, brilliant way of navigating the world.\n\nOn
November 20\, Reel Science joins Schmidt Ocean Institute to bring a speci
al Ship-to-Shore stream from their research vessel R/V Falkor (too). UT Au
stin marine biologist Brett Baker\, Co-director of the Center for Planetar
y Science and Habitability\, will be leading an expedition to sample micro
bes deep in the ocean off the coast of Uruguay aboard the vessel. Brett an
d the Falkor (too) team will lead a tour of the ship\, its labs and the in
struments that are being used to understand the ocean depths. Following th
e virtual tour and screening of “How Deep is Your Love\,” Baker will r
ejoin the audience to discuss his research and his quest to understand mor
e about microbial communities in the ocean depths on the way to answering
one of the greatest mysteries in biology — the series of events that led
to the origin of complex life\, including us.\n\n5:30 p.m. — Doors open

DESCRIPTION:The Central Texas Philharmonic will present Disney’s The Mup
pet Christmas Carol in Concert Live to Film featuring a screening of the f
ilm while the musical score is performed live by the orchestra.\n\nThe Mup
pets perform Charles Dickens’ classic holiday tale\, with Kermit the Fro
g playing Bob Cratchit\, the put-upon clerk of stingy Ebenezer Scrooge (Mi
chael Caine). Gonzo\, as Dickens\, narrates the story with the help of Ri
zzo the Rat. The film also features Miss Piggy as Emily Cratchit\, Fozzie
Bear as Fozziwig\, and Robin the Frog as Tiny Tim. When the grumpy Scroog
e receives Christmas Eve visits from the Ghosts of Christmas Past\, Presen
t and Future\, they show him the error of his self-serving ways. Though th
e miserable old man seems beyond any hope of redemption and happiness\, th
e kind and humble Bob Cratchit\, his family\, and the Spirits open Scrooge
's eyes – and his heart – to the true meaning of Christmas.\n\nThe ori
ginal score was composed by Miles Goodman (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels\, Littl
e Shop of Horrors) with songs by Oscar®\, Emmy® and GRAMMY®-winning son
gwriter Paul Williams (“Rainbow Connection\,” “Evergreen”).
