 \n\nThe Atlanta Photography Group is excited to announce our next call for
  entry\, Storytelling 2026\, which celebrates street and documentary phot
 ography of all styles with images that reflect a strong narrative. We are 
 looking for images which are a combination of candid depictions of everyda
 y life\, shadows of the city streets\, the abandonment of a country road\,
  subtle moments of joy\, humor\, love\, fear or anxiety. Think of work lik
 e that created by Diane Arbus\, Bruce Davidson\, Robert Frank\, Josef Koud
 leka\, Helen Levitt\, Baldwin Lee\, Roy DeCarava\, Mary Ellen Mark\, Daido
  Moriyama\, Lee Friedlander\, Lisette Model\, Gordon Parks\, and Harry Cal
 lahan.\n\nWe are excited to have Karen Marshall\, Chair of The Documentary
  Practice and Visual Journalism Program for the International Center of Ph
 otography as our esteemed juror.\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][us_separator size=
 "small"][vc_column_text]\nKaren Marshall\nChair of The Documentary Practic
 e and Visual Journalism Program\nInternational Center for Photography\nNew
  York photographer Karen Marshall documents social issues. By focusing on 
 the psychological lives of her subjects\, she has worked on a series of vi
 sual stories that contemplate familial relationships and convey ideas abou
 t people and place within the cultural landscape.\n\nHer seminal project\,
  Between Girls\, articulates the coming of age of a group of urban middle 
 class teenagers\, following them from high school into adulthood 30 years 
 later.\n\nThe book of Between Girls was published by Kehrer Verlag in 2021
 .\n\nIn her documentary journey Marshall also has witnessed the struggling
  identity of a group of Navajo Indians and the demise of their earth-based
  culture in Caretakers of the Earth: Navajo Resistance and Relocation. She
  often directs her camera at family life\, including her Pennsylvania Dutc
 h in-laws’ clan in a series titled Pennsylvania In-Laws. In Still\, Stan
 ding\, a series begun in 2013\, she explores the Polish landscape that her
  grandparents left behind when they emigrated to the United States in the 
 early 1920's.\n\nMarshall is the recipient of artist fellowships and spons
 orships through the New York Foundation for the Arts\, as well as grants a
 nd support from private foundations. Her photographs have been exhibited i
 n the United States\, the Philippines\, British Columbia\, Israel\, Colomb
 ia\, and China\, and are part of several collections\, including the Femin
 ist Artbase at The Brooklyn Museum.\n\nHer images have appeared in publica
 tions in the United States\, Europe\, and Asia such as The Washington Post
 \, CNN\, ID Vice\, Buzzfeed\, Konbini Arts\, Juxtapoz\, Photobook Journal\
 , L'Oeil de la Photographie\, NPR Picture Show\, Blind Magazine\, Vanity F
 air\, GUP Magazine among others.\n\nHer work as a freelance photographer s
 pans many genres. Marshall’s distinctive style captures meaningful momen
 ts within a narrative frame. She has photographed for editorial\, corporat
 e\, non-profit\, and advertising clients for more than twenty-five years i
 n Europe\, South Africa\, Asia\, and Latin America. Marshall is an expert 
 at visual storytelling with a thriving consulting business assisting photo
 graphers\, foundations\, and small companies in the creation of visual nar
 ratives.\n\nMarshall is the Chair of the fulltime Documentary Practice and
  Visual Journalism Program at The International Center of Photography wher
 e she has been on the faculty for more than 20 years. She is an Associate 
 Professor (Adjunct) at New York University\, mentors MFA candidates at the
  Maine Media Workshops\, and teaches independent workshops in the United S
 tates\, China\, Germany\, Italy\, and Columbia. Marshall holds an MFA in N

 n Plates of Mountains\, published by Four Way Books. A book of lyric essay
 s\, Rubble Masonry\, from LSU Press\, is her newest release.\n\nShe is co-
 editor of A Literary Field Guide to Southern Appalachia\, from University 
 of Georgia Press\, and the journal Southern Humanities Review.  \n\nRose h
 as been awarded fellowships by MacDowell and Bread Loaf and Sewanee Writer
 s’ Conferences\; served as Dartmouth Poet in Residence at the Frost Plac
 e\; and is winner of the National Poetry Series\, the Chaffin Award for Ac
 hievement in Appalachian Writing\, and the Fellowship of Southern Writers
 ’ New Writing Award for Poetry\, among other prizes.\n\nHer work has app
 eared in publications including American Poetry Review\, The Kenyon Review
 \, The Southern Review\, New England Review\, Prairie Schooner\, Orion\, a
 nd The Oxford American.\n\nCurrently\, she is Lanier Endowed Professor of
