DESCRIPTION:Maintaining more than 1\,400 miles of roadway across Atlanta r
equires more than responding to potholes.  It requires knowing where infr
astructure is deteriorating\, understanding which improvements should come
first and making informed decisions about where transportation dollars ca
n have the greatest impact. The Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLD
OT) has partnered with Cyvl to do exactly that.  Cyvl is an AI-powered i
ntelligence platform that uses LiDAR sensors\, advanced imagery\, and art
ificial intelligence (AI) to collect detailed information about the cond
ition of transportation infrastructure. The technology is helping teams p
rioritize maintenance and make data-backed infrastructure investments.
Traditionally\, assessing a large roadway network can require extensive m
anual surveys and months of work. Cyvl’s technology allows ATLDOT to sc
an and analyze the City’s 1\,450-mile road network in days.  As vehicl
es equipped with Cyvl’s technology travel Atlanta’s streets\, informat
ion about the roadway is captured. AI then analyzes that information to
identify pavement conditions. The result is objective data showing what
infrastructure exists\, where it is located\, and what condition it is in
 . \n \n \n \n Better Pavement Across Downtown Atlanta
 				\n \n \n \n Cyvl first worked with ATLDOT in 2024 to
conduct a roadway assessment that established a baseline for pavement cond
itions. A follow-up assessment helped guide the City’s 2025 Downtown Pav
ement Program and identify where improvements were needed.\n\nBetween 2024
and 2026\, 85% of downtown roads were repaired and potholes decreased by
60%. By 2026\, 97% of downtown streets were classified as “great\,” up
  from 47% before the program began. \n \n \n \n
 																			\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 			\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 					\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n
 Taking the Approach Citywide \n \n \n \n Building on t
he results of the Downtown Pavement Program\, Atlanta has expanded its par
tnership with Cyvl citywide. The expanded program covers roadways\, sidewa
lks\, curb ramps\, and street signs.“The Downtown Pavement Program resul
ts show what data-driven infrastructure management can do\,” ATLDOT Comm
issioner Solomon Caviness said. “By using reliable\, continuously update
 d information\, we reduced potholes\, improved pavement conditions\, and m
ade smarter investments. Expanding this approach citywide will help us str
etch every infrastructure dollar\, prioritize where the need is the greate
st\, and stay ahead of issues in every neighborhood.” \n \n
 		\n \n Building a Better Transportation Network \n \n \n
\n Atlanta’s downtown improvements received added attention
as the city prepared to welcome visitors for the 2026 FIFA World Cup\, but
the value of the work extends well beyond a major event. \n\nThe larger g
oal is creating a more proactive way to manage Atlanta’s infrastructure.
Instead of simply identifying a street that needs work today\, continuous
ly updated data can help ATLDOT understand how conditions are changing acr
oss the city and plan accordingly. \n\nFor residents\, the technology its
elf may largely operate behind the scenes. Its impact is much easier to se
e – fewer potholes and improved pavement. As ATLDOT expands this approac
h across the city\, data is becoming another tool for building and maintai
ning transportation infrastructure that better serves every Atlanta neighb
 orhood.
