 ith Professor Saman Majeed\, Ph. D.\, who will discuss the connection betw
 een forensic science and the legal system. Head to the Mullen & James Huma
 nities Hall to learn more about how forensic science can inform investigat
 ions\, evidence\, and the pursuit of justice. This event is presented by t
 he Department of Interdisciplinary Studies and UNC Asheville’s Law\, Eth
 ics\, and Social Policy program. \nThis is the first of three events in th
 e Fall 2026 Interdisciplinary Studies Guest Speaker Series. Additional eve
 nts include a discussion from Guest Speaker David Firestein on September 3
 0 and a presentation from Professor Austin Hooe\, Ph. D. on November 5. \n
   \nAbout Saman Majeed\, Ph. D. \nMajeed graduated as a Pharmacist from T
 he University of Faisalabad\, in Pakistan\, where she originally came from
 . Then\, after gaining valuable experience working as a Quality Control Ph
 armacist in a pharmaceutical industry\, Majeed completed a Master’s degr
 ee in Biochemistry at the University of Agriculture\, Pakistan. Afterward\
 , she joined the Narcotics Department at the Punjab Forensic Science Agenc
 y (PFSA) as a Forensic Scientist\, where Majeed analyzed more than 1\,600 
 cases over a span of nearly three years and testified at court trials as a
 n expert witness. Later\, as a Ph.D. graduate student at Texas Tech Univer
 sity\, she worked in Dr. Elka R. Georgieva’s research group. When Majeed
  is not in the classroom or research lab\, she likes to spend time with he
 r family\, read fiction\, and travel around to explore nature. \nAccessibi

DESCRIPTION:Geology of the Blue Ridge Field Class\nwith Anton DuMars \nThu

   \nOn this Field Experience\, we will observe and interpret evidence of 
 Appalachian mountain-building events. Participants can put their hands on 
 a 380+/- million-year-old pluton and observe their post-uplift weathering\
 , jointing\, and exfoliation. In addition\, participants observe and inter
 pret river processes\, transport\, and depositional environments of sedime
 nts derived from up-gradient sources. The experience includes on-site geol
 ogic map reading and interpretation. \nThis off-site program has stops in 
 the Pisgah Forest near Brevard NC along The Pisgah Highway including Danie
 l Ridge and the Davidson River. \nThis program provides transportation to 
 and from the class location using our minibus. We will meet at the Arboret
 um and return to the Arboretum. If you prefer to meet us there\, you will 
 want to let us know and we will tell you where to meet.  \nThis program wi
 ll take place outside and will follow easy to moderate trails. Dress for t
 he weather and prepare to be outside for the entire program time. \nAnton 
 DuMars\, a resident of Black Mountain\, NC\, is an adjunct professor at th
 e College of Charleston. His geological interests include fluvial\, deltai
 c\, and coastal processes. Ideally\, he’s spending time on a hiking trai
