DESCRIPTION:Exhibition of vintage photographs by Evon Streetman. \nEvon S
treetman is a seminal figure in Southern photography whose experimental ap
proach helped define the trajectory of contemporary photo-based art in the
region. Initially trained as a painter\, she was an early pioneer in inco
rporating painterly processes and handwork into her photographs. She embra
ces the materiality of the photographic surface through interventions such
as hand-coloring\, airbrushing\, and the application of gold and silver l
eaf. Her images often blur the line between documentation and transformati
on\, evoking a sense of place that is both intimate and enigmatic. \nStree
tman’s work emerged alongside a broader movement of artists who redefine
d photography as a fine art medium\, including Clarissa Sligh\, William Ch
ristenberry\, and Eugene Meatyard. Like her contemporaries\, Streetman’s
work explores memory and place\, remaining deeply rooted in the Southern
landscape. \nIn addition to her artistic practice\, Streetman was an impac
tful educator. She assisted in developing the photography curriculum at Fl
orida State University and later founded the photography program at the Pe
nland School of Craft. Her work remains a standard in the study of alterna
tive photographic practices and the visual culture of the American South.

DESCRIPTION:APLR Presents: Croz Boyce – Featuring Avey Tare & Geologist
 from Animal Collective \nTuesday\, September 8th\, 2026 \nAyurPrana Listen
 ing Room \n312 Haywood Rd\, Asheville\, NC 28806 \nDoors 6PM || Show 7PM \
nCroz Boyce \n**What if 40 minutes of instrumental music made by two frien
ds passing files across state lines could capture the range of human exper
ience\, or at least a disproportionate chunk of it—worry and camaraderie
\, hope and frustration\, tenderness and absurdity?** \nThat is the questi
on that steadily emerges across the nine tracks of the self-titled debut f
rom Croz Boyce\, the duo of two musicians who have made some of the last q
uarter-century’s most inquisitive music: Dave Portner (Avey Tare) and Br
ian Weitz (Geologist) of Animal Collective. \nBuds and collaborators for s
o long that it seems they can have deep exchanges without a word—or\, in
this case\, a shared physical space—Portner and Weitz cry and hug and c
rack up (good) and crack up (bad) as a pair here. A record of sweet or fre
tful acoustic strums and electronics that give every scene color and depth
\, *Croz Boyce* feels like a celebration of friendship\, of the chance to
share a lifetime together even if from a distance. \nHere is some requisit
e biographical information for the first or third paragraph of your record
review\, depending on the kind of outline you prefer: \nFive years ago\,
Animal Collective released a track called “Brown Thrasher\,” part of a
massive charitable compendium called *For the Birds*. It was a curious li
ttle drift\, single acoustic notes acting like opened windows for rays of
electronic sunshine. To divulge a little liner-notes data\, that was just
Portner and Weitz\, working through their mutual adoration for a springtim
e idyll. \nThe two liked the partnership and\, as the rest of their main q
uartet was busy with other projects\, decided to keep going. Starting in e
arly 2023\, and almost without exception\, Portner would write a guitar th
eme in his Blue Ridge redoubt and send it to Weitz in the heart of D.C. He
’d react to each instrumental and send it back. Aside from a shared mixi
ng session in rural North Carolina and another in Baltimore with Animal Co
llective’s Josh Dibb\, that’s how easily *Croz Boyce* came together—
two longtime pals passing the time by making music together. \nBut the bes
t way to hear *Croz Boyce*\, really\, is to forget the backstory for 40 mi
nutes\, to discard notions of why this guitar tone or that rhythmic relati
onship might sound familiar. Instead\, simply listen and feel: What do the
se songs remind you of or make you aspire to? \nHere are some possible int
erpretations\, all but certainly incorrect in the merged mind of Weitz and
Portner but valid nevertheless. \nOpener “Hanging Out with a Blueberry
Pop” first feels like lounging on a riverbank with your crew\, maybe lau
ghing as you pass a joint around\, baking in the sun\; the midsection is t
he splish-splash of finally jumping in\, too giddy to care about the curre
nt. \nMaybe it’s just the name at work\, but “Towson Acid” maps the
edge of oblivion where even the plainest of facts don’t seem certain\, w
here reality refracts into a dozen different images\, where even the drums
you hear in the distance are maybe hallucinatory phantoms. \nAnd is close
r “Banana Pudding” only these two homies messing with each other\, the
space between the slow strums and the wildly teasing electronics intended
to make one another (and\, hey\, us) chuckle? It works. \nBut it’s not
all laughs and lounging by the water. At least half of *Croz Boyce* feels
like a wordless meditation on these anxious times\, on the endless bubblin
g up of bad headlines and counting down of the doomsday clock. \n“Father
Karras\,” which Weitz actually started\, suggests two hands nervously r
ubbed together\, its string scrapes and warped synthesizer lines and Derek
Bailey guitar staking out a landscape of uncertainty. \nAnd “Steven’s
Sunshine Rejected” is kind of a beautiful bummer\, isn’t it? Portner
’s down-tuned guitar and forlorn slide lines shape a gray playground for
Weitz’s electronics\, which move this way and that like gusts of wind.
When the pace picks up in the back half\, though\, it feels like two peopl
e who simply trust one another\, reaching together for something a little
better. \nTo reiterate\, this could\, of course\, all be wrong. Take this
music on a hike or a walk or a lazy riverside day. Listen. Decide for your
self. \nBack before Animal Collective was really called Animal Collective\
, the goal was for that loose confederation of close friends to make music
together as time and personnel and circumstance allowed. Like jazz musici
ans showing up for sessions\, they’d slap the name of whoever played on
the cover. Branding needs intervened and\, well\, we have been blessed wit
h approximately a quarter-century of Animal Collective. But the idea remai
ns\, as every member of that band has always moved as a perpetual free age
nt. \nWeitz and Portner were going to call this music *Geologist and Avey
Tare*\, but they began this project around the time that David Crosby died
. A Dropbox folder named “Croz Boys” mutated into the handle *Croz Boy
ce*—not a tribute to Crosby’s music at all\, but maybe an unintentiona
l tribute to the idea that there are lots of worse ways to pass your life
than making music with buds. \nAgain\, though\, that could all be wrong. \
nAll ages\nEnding Time is an estimate\nTickets only sold through DICE. Ti
cket Price will increase on the day of the show. Save by buying before!

is an artist in motion\, pushing boundaries by infusing movement and ener
gy into her paintings. For Anne painting begins with what you cannot see.
She poses questions to herself before starting a painting. What is drawing
me to this subject? What is the story I want to tell? What am I trying to
express in each painting? No single mark is precious. No fear is allowed
to enter the process behind the easel. All elements of the composition mus
t work in unity. This process is critical for infusing energy into my work
and allows me to respond directly to the piece as it evolves. \nAnne’s
journey as an artist has been a fulfilling adventure\, leading her from fa
shion and textile designer in NYC\, to teaching and developing art curricu
la for children in Philadelphia and Chicago. In 2013 Anne turned her focus
to fine art. After viewing a pastel exhibition at the Noyse Museum of Art
in Hammonton N.J. Anne began her journey with the pastel medium. The tang
ible aspects of the medium\, with the ability to draw\, paint\, layer\, an
d combine with other mediums has led her on an energetic journey pushing t
he qualities of pastel in her work. Anne’s work has been featured in the
Pastel Journal multiple times\, Pratique Des Arts and Strokes of Genius a
nd the 2022 and 2024 IAPS Souvenir Book. She has also written multiple ar
ticles for the Pastel Journal and Artist Magazine. \nAnne is the past pres
ident and workshop chair of the Piedmont Pastel Society. In 2019 she parti
cipated in the Dueling Demonstration event at the International Associatio
n of Pastel Societies convention which occurs every two years. In 2022 and
2024 Anne was invited back to be one of the faculty artists to demonstrat
e her techniques at the convention. Anne holds a BFA from the Rhode Island
School of Design and currently lives in Pickens\, South Carolina.

DESCRIPTION:As tech bosses fall in line with fascism\, tech workers are fi
ghting back!\nAgainst Tech Oligarchy is the rousing inside story of their
movement—and how it spawned the right-wing\, anti-worker backlash now r
eshaping the industry. For this event\, JS Tan and Clarissa Redwine\, two
tech workers-turned-organizers\, tell us about their experiences with tech
industry’s corruption and the resistance taking place inside the belly
of the beast!\nAccording to Karen Hao\, author of Empire of AI: "Against T
ech Oligarchy offers an illuminating and deeply self-reflective history of
the tech worker movement... At a time when Silicon Valley is more powerfu
l than ever and threatening the very foundations of democracy\, Tan and Re
dwine’s rallying cry for more radical dissent among the industry's own e
mployees could not have come soon enough."\nJS Tan is a PhD candidate at M
IT and a former Microsoft employee. His work has been featured in the New
York Times and MIT Technology Review\, among other outlets\, and his writi
ng has appeared in Dissent\, Jacobin\, Foreign Policy\, the Baffler\, and
the Guardian.\nClarissa Redwine helped organize the Kickstarter union and
cofounded tech organizing conference Circuit Breakers. Her organizing work
has been featured in the New York Times\, the BBC\, the Guardian\, the Ve
 rge\, TechCrunch\, and elsewhere.
