The ABA has switched its focus to restoring the three barns on the Smith Farm and to reconstructing two donated historic barns built in the late 1800s and e arly 1900s.  We are so proud of what we have accomplished that the tour w ill take place AT the Smith Farm at the Bailey Mountain Preserve on Satu rday\, September 5. You will still be guided past barns—FIVE different a rchitectural southern Appalachian styles—by our knowledgeable researcher Taylor Barnhill. And\, as past attendees will tell you\, he will entertai n you with stories about each of these! \nBarn Day at the Smith Farm will have a lunch\, local music and a silent auction. To maximize your experien ce\, we will be limiting the number of tickets to 40 and asking that you c hoose a time for your tour with Taylor. Only 20 people will accompany Tayl or on each tour—one beginning at 10:30am and the other at 1:15pm.  Lunc h will be at Noon. Susan Gaire came to ot her female weavers in Western North Carolina with an idea: Collaborate on a single image\, with each artist weaving her own personality into their p anel of the tapestry. This piece was designed in early 2025\, and weaving took place between October 2025 and March 2026. Weavers were given a gener al color palette\, size guidelines\, and the placement of the three ridgel ines that run continuously across the piece\, but otherwise had full creat ive freedom to decide materials\, technique and embellishment. The result is a nine-panel artwork that tells nine chapters of the same story.
