DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the launch of Fine Design: A Studio Guid
 e to Remixing Design\, Art\, Craft\, and Industry\, a publication by forme
 r Designer-in-Residence of 3D Design\, Scott Klinker (CAA MFA Design 1996)
 . The book is a guide to contemporary studio practice that combines instru
 ctional methods with significant student and alumni projects developed dur
 ing his years at Cranbrook Academy of Art. Scott will be joined in convers
 ation by Director of Cranbrook Art Museum\, Andrew Satake Blauvelt (CAA MF
 A Design 1988)\, Nina Cho (CAA MFA 3D Design 2015)\, and Evan Fay (CAA MFA
  3D Design 2016).\n\nScott Klinker designs furniture\, lighting\, and spat
 ial systems that operate at the intersection of design\, architecture\, ar
 t\, and craft. Trained as an industrial designer\, he approaches each proj
 ect through an architectural lens\, exploring how people inhabit and exper
 ience space. \n\nHe has partnered with design-driven companies\, includin
 g MillerKnoll\, Alessi\, Steelcase\, Landscape Forms\, and Burton Snowboar
 ds. His industry projects have received numerous professional awards\, whi
 le his limited-edition works are represented by Playground Detroit. \n\nK
 linker earned an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and has held profession
 al positions at IDEO in Palo Alto and Sony Ericsson. Before returning to C
 ranbrook\, he taught design for two years in Japan at the Kanazawa Interna
 tional Design Institute. His studio is based in Metro Detroit\, Michigan.
  \n\nThe book signing will begin at 6pm\, and the conversation will follo
 w at 6:30pm. Purchase an early copy of the book before its scheduled relea
 se on October 14\, while supplies last. This event is free with museum adm
 ission.

 er Left: Black Space\, White Borders\, Latino Crossings.\n\n\n\nDetroit se
 emed to experience an explosive rebirth following its bankruptcy\, the lar
 gest in US municipal history. It was as if the slate had been wiped clean 
 and the color line erased in the nation’s largest Black city. Detroit Ne
 ver Left tackles important contradictions in the post-bankruptcy era. Urba
 n youth do not want to be moved out or isolated in their barrio. Similarl
 y\, many Detroiters feel spatial changes happen “to” instead of “for
 ” them. Detroit Never Left presents dispatches from the frontlines of pr
 ivatization’s war on the people of Detroit. Dr. Trujillo-Pagán shows ho
 w policies that purport to solve the city’s problems actually reward the
  profiteers and predatory lenders who caused them in the first place.\n\n\
