 Ann Arbor Django Reinhardt Festival returns to The Ark for a joyous celebr
 ation of the music and legacy of jazz guitar pioneer Django Reinhardt. Hos
 ted by guitarist Andrew Brown\, a longtime champion of Hot Club music in M
 ichigan whose performances and educational efforts have helped cultivate t
 he region’s Django community\, this year’s festival features an outsta
 nding cast of musicians. Featured in the evening is guitarist Sam Farthing
 \, one of the most exciting young voices in jazz manouche today\, known fo
 r his virtuosic technique\, expressive improvisation\, and appearances at 
 major Django festivals across North America and Europe. Joining him is acc

  invite MTU Jazz Alumni who studied under Don Keranen\, Mike Irish\, and D
 irector of Jazz Studies Adam Meckler to return to campus\, rehearse\, and 
 take the stage for the Don Keranen Jazz Festival. 2027 marks the big reuni
 on!\n\nFriday night kicks off with the R&D Jazz Band under the direction o
 f Drew Kilpela\, alongside the debut of the newly formed MTU Jazz Choir di
 rected by Jana Meckler. After the backstage performance\, the music keeps 
 going at the Orpheum! Join the jazz bands in Hancock for a post-concert ja
 m session on Friday night! Bring your horn to play with the house band\, o
 r just come to dance and sing along!\n\nSaturday features a big evening of
  music with the Jazz Lab Band and JazTec under the direction of Adam Meckl
 er\, as well as the MTU Jazz Alumni Megaband under the baton of a special 
 guest director\, performing alongside the local high school students from 
 the afternoon masterclass. The Jazz Lab Band will also be joined by UP-bas
 ed jazz legends Drew Kilpela and Pat Booth as guest soloists. Afterward\, 
 close out the night with the Workshop Brass Band afterparty\, at the Orphe
 um!\n\nOn Sunday\, the Workshop Brass Band will close the festival with an
  intimate gospel service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church\, within walking
  distance from the MTU campus. The New Orleans Brass Band tradition is\, i
 n many ways\, rooted in gospel music and repertoire\, and the Workshop Bra
 ss Band will perform that repertoire as part of an interfaith service.\n\n

 onal and modern repertoire for big band\, with an emphasis on traditional 
 repertoire. R&D learns tunes by ear\, and spends time on improvisation and
  defining choir changes for improvising.\n\nWorkshop Brass Band\nLed by Ad
 am Meckler\, the Workshop Brass Band performs works learned by ear\, stemm
 ing from the New Orleans Brass Band tradition. That means you’ll hear Wo
 rkshop play old favorites like When the Saints Go Marching In\, and Basin 
 Street Blues alongside traditional brass band versions of hymns like I’l
 l Fly Away and What a Friend We Have in Jesus right up against modern bras
