DESCRIPTION:11 Days: Operation Pineapple Express\nSeptember 10 & 11\, 2026
\n7:00 pm both days \nNHCC | Wells Fargo Auditorium \nHow far would you go
to honor a promise? \nWhat would you do if leadership told you the missio
n was over\, but the people you’d promised to protect were still in dang
er? That’s not a hypothetical. In August 2021\, as Kabul fell and the Ta
liban closed in on the Kabul airport\, retired U.S. Army Green Beret Lt. C
ol. Scott Mann faced exactly that question. His answer became one of the m
ost remarkable rescue operations in modern American history\, saving more
than 1\,000 Afghans in danger of losing their lives. \nA Task Force Pineap
 ple Production \n$34 w/ a $5 discount for Students. Veterans\, 1st Respond

stan & Operation Pineapple Express: \nIn August 2021\, after nearly 20 yea
rs of war\, the United States and its allies began their final withdrawal
from Afghanistan. The Afghan government and military collapsed rapidly\, a
nd on August 15\, 2021\, the Taliban entered Kabul and reclaimed control o
f the country. Thousands of Afghans who had worked alongside American forc
es suddenly found themselves at risk of retaliation. \nAs the evacuation u
nfolded\, retired Green Beret Lt. Col. Scott Mann and a network of fellow
veterans launched Task Force Pineapple. What began as an effort to rescue
one former Afghan commando grew into the Pineapple Express\, an unofficial
rescue operation that helped guide Afghan allies\, interpreters\, special
operators\, and their families through Taliban-controlled Kabul and towar
d the airport. The volunteer team ultimately helped more than 1\,000 peopl
e reach safety.\nThe story of Pineapple Express is more than an evacuation
 . It is a story of loyalty\, courage\, sacrifice\, and a promise kept—as
American veterans returned for one final mission to help the Afghan partn
ers who had stood beside them during the war. \n\n*The event is a rental e

PLEASE MAKE YOUR RESERVATION HERE!\nAbout the artist: Amanda Dannáe Rome
ro is a Nuevomexicanx interdisciplinary artist and musician of Indo-Hispan
 o heritage. Her practice incorporates sound\, video\, colcha embroidery\,
tinsmithing\, composition\, and performance. Her work explores the inter
connectivity between humans and environments and the ways that cultural\,
regional\, and environmental practices are shared between families and co
mmunities. The work in this exhibition draws from Romero’s ongoing expl
oration of memory\, devotional practices\, and artistic lineage. Using ima
gery from family photo archives dating back five generations in northern N
ew Mexico\, she integrates cyanotype prints on muslin fabric with colcha e
mbroidery and tinsmithing\, two mediums passed down from her great grandp
arents. By integrating this artistic language into a more contemporary con
text\, Romero considers how memory is preserved and how informal spaces of
gathering\, like her grandmother’s kitchen table\, are access points to
intergenerational knowledge and experience. Romero is an art and music ed
ucator and received a master’s from St. John’s College and a BFA in Ar
t Studio from UNM. She is a founding member of Fourteenfifteen Gallery a
nd the L.o.A. artist collective.  \nArtist Dialogue: Amanda Dannáe Rome

DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, September 27\, 2026\n6:30 pm \nNHCC | Salón Ortega \
nPlease join us in welcoming Dr. Federico Reade who will be honoring us wi
th a reading of his new book\, Feet of Clay\, Spirit of Fire: Corridos de
las Mercedes de Nuevomexico 1856-1969\, an analysis of the New Mexico sty
le of corridos\, or ballads. \nThe Alianza corrido cycle embodies the elem
ents of the Heroic Journey\, beginning with the call to adventure and cont
inuing through the initiation of the adventure\, its coalescence\, its fra
gmentation\, and the end of the hero’s journey. The sociopolitical corri
do is a mirror that reflects the developmental understanding of repression
under dominance and serves as the ideal mechanism of expression for the d
isempowered. The corrido is the perfect format for the narrative\; it is r
eflective\, bears the truth values in semantic intent\, yet is poetic in t
echnique. \nFree Community Event \nRESERVE YOUR TICKETS HERE!
