DESCRIPTION:DOORS 6:30pm  •  All Ages\n\nSponsored by Amantes del Ja
 zz \nTwo-time Grammy-nominated tenor saxophonist\, composer\, and bandlead
er Melissa Aldana has emerged as one of the most important voices in conte
mporary jazz. Internationally recognized for her commanding sound\, emotio
nal depth\, and singular artistic vision\, she made history by becoming th
e first woman to win an instrumental category in the Thelonious Monk Inter
national Jazz Saxophone Competition and has since built a career defined b
y artistic integrity\, technical brilliance\, and “an unmistakably perso
nal approach to musical storytelling.” A native of Chile and a graduate
of Berklee College of Music\, Aldana soared to prominence with her 2010 de
 but release\, Free Fall\, and her acclaimed album\, Visions\, earned a
Grammy nomination for Best Improvised Jazz Solo. Her Blue Note debut\, 12
Stars\, affirmed her place as “a major creative force with a deeply per
sonal compositional voice\,” and her latest project\, Filin\, released
on Blue Note and inspired by the poetic Cuban ‘filin’ tradition is an
intimate ballads project featuring Gonzalo Rubalcaba\, Peter Washington\,
Kush Abadey\, and Cécile McLorin Salvant. Aldana’s music\, while roote
d in the jazz tradition\, has been described as unmistakenly contemporary\
, bringing together harmonic sophistication\, narrative clarity\, and a ra
re sensitivity to tone\, space\, and emotion.  A celebrated bandleader in
her own right\, Aldana has performed and collaborated with some of jazz
’s most influential figures\, including Wynton Marsalis\, Christian McBr
 ide\, Jimmy Heath\, Joe Lovano\, Danilo Pérez\, Terri Lyne Carrington\,
Cécile McLorin Salvant\, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba. The Melissa Aldana Quart
 et features Glenn Zaleski\, piano\; Pablo Menares\, bass\; and Kendrick S
